I just saw this video with a cyclist shaving down completely, and I
mean completely before a race.

Do some guys really go all out like this with shaving down? I thought
they just did their legs and sometimes nether regions. I figured I'd
find the answer in this group but appreciate you pointing me elsewhere
if need as I've just got to know! (Warning - the video is advertising a
sale for a sporting goods store, but it's still pretty funny. I found
it because this place had Discovery Team baseball hats and I felt like
being like Lance. I'm certainly not going to shave my eyebrows tho!)

I like getting a hot nurse to shave my nether regions.

So I take it this video is a little off, and cyclists only shave their
legs before a race? I know my swimming friends always went all the way
with the razor, but I've never seen cyclists with shaved heads before.
Thanks in advance for the input.

Also another question - why do cyclists shave down? I know the swimmers
do it to reduce drag (even if it's just a psychological boost). I heard
tho that cyclists do it to reduce chafing and whatnot and wondered if
that's true.

I just have to say also I'm posting thru google groups, and it's a
little creepy b/c the Sponsored Link I'm reading to the right is asking
me if I "Like A Shaved Beaver?" Twisted.

Four reasons:

1) Reduces healing time of and the general hassle of dealing with
road rash (abrasions). But come on, how many people actually
crash often enough to justify daily shaving? Seems to me the ends
don't justify the means.

2) Makes post ride massages easier to give and receive. This
would be a very good reason if I could only get me wife to give
me massages more often. So again for me, the ends don't justify
the means.

3) Reduces drag. I've heard this one, but don't think it really
reduces drag enough to really matter for 99% of riders.

4) It's a symbol of being a dedicated cyclist - just part of
the sport. I think this is the *real* reason for most people
if they are honest with themselves. One would be considered
an automatic Fred if one shows up to a ride with hairy legs.

Hey, that's how this Fred rates his riding. If the only people passing me have
shaved legs it isn't a big deal. If another old, fat and hairy goes by.....

5) If a wasp, bee or hornet or some such piquant insect gets entangled
in hairy legs it could bring a whole bunch down when you react to the
pain by jumping.

I once had a hot nurse shave mine.

She had a tongue like a cow (and it made me go "Wow!").
