Fails drug test.

Just kidding.
So Chavanel is chasing for the lead
descending the Col de la Croix, and
Paul Sherwen remarks that Chavanel
is not a premier descender. There is
Chavanel's knee hanging way out in
the wind. Yeah, Paul nails it.

While Phil and Paul occasionally stumble into making a good comment,
more than not, they say the most idiotic stuff and fail to observe
what's going on in the race. That said, most of the alternative
coverage I've heard over the years has been even worse.

When we first got the Tour nightly on TV in the UK (1980s IIRC), all
we had was a highlights show with Messrs Liggett and Sherwen. It was
OK, although because it was edited, you used to hear the phrase "the
man they call 'The Badger'" an infuriating number of times for a 60
minute show. Now that ITV has several channels, they are showing
every stage live and I switch over to their coverage occasionally.
It's like going back in time, although I have noticed that Sherwen is
actually doing some commentary now rather than just punditry. He
seems quite good at it. I've never liked Liggett since he turned up
to commentate on a track meet at Herne Hill in the 1970s driving a
Porsche. It just didn't seem appropriate somehow. He's always tried
a bit too hard to be "professional" for my liking. David Duffield,
sadly now retired from Eurosport, was at least enthusiastic and came
out with some wonderful nonsense. If you get the chance, watch German
coverage. The last time I did, Rudi Altig was still doing the pundit
role and he's a pleasure to listen to.

Same with me. I like Phil and Paul.

As I have not the television, I depend on the clips on youtube. I
like the ones from Sporza; occasionally they say something like
"Cavendish perfekt aan de wiel van Renshaw. Voila" and the rest is
Flemish to me, punctuated with the occasional oeyoeyoeyoeyoe...
