I get annoyed with the "He's a nice guy and we like him and that proves
he didn't dope" defense a little more than with the Lafferty-esque
opposite. After reading a story like this, I can only pray that Levi
buys a dog and names him "Tugboat".

Hey, did you see Gene Bowen's comment on asthmatics? Scooped Magilla

And to boot the thread was started by your (old?) club mate, Dario Falquier.
Last I heard he was the owner of the Webcor pro team. Nice guy.

Yeah, that was before my time on RBR, but for some
reason I thought the asthmatics/bronchodilators debate
had been continuing over the years and Magilla just
adopted it as his crusade.

Levi only got 3 months, it's entirely possible he got popped for
something dumb like a stimulant or even pseudo-ephedrine.
This seems like an occasion for the self-righteous to point
fingers. Also, Joe Papp dug it up? WTF? Is he working for
Jeff Novitsky now?

From a Facebook friend:

On the Landis ‘naming others’ thing…was anyone else in the Nat’l Elite
Crit (Columbus, Ohio 94-95?). Race was so hard only 21 guys finished.
Jason Snow & I sat on Levi’s wheel as he lapped the main field to a lead
grouip (at 34 mph) to win; was DOPED to the Gills, got busted, but
signed w/ Saturn the same week anyway. Condoning system?
He (Levi) was stripped of the Nat’l Champ Title which wasd given to
Chris Wherry by default.

Dario and Ted are co-owners. I never knew Dario, but I did a lot of
rides with Ted, he was/is a hell of a strong rider.

It seems like you are being self-righteous by pointing fingers at those who
dare to call out confirmed dopers.

Plus, I don't see how doping with stimulants is "something dumb" especially
in a criterium where it would confer a significant advantage.

Please expound.

Because of the ease of detection, doping with stimulants makes
no sense at all. It's sort of like stashing a motor on the bike
in that regard.

Stimulants are certainly still out there. If you are taking shit
to enhance recovery you would pair that with stimulants to ramp
up your training volume.

I realize you're trolling, so I won't put too much time into this.
A number of years ago package from Belgium addressed to a former
pro's dad was discovered to be containing stimulants. When I asked
an ex-pro about that he said that probably it was from someone
using them to jack up their training load in preparation for Flanders
and Paris-Roubaix. You would use them in training but not for a race
because of the ease of detection.

He said the people that did this made really strange riding
companions.

I realize your author has programmed you to pull a counter argument
out of your ass and follow this up. So let me tell you in advance
to suck it.

Fucktard,
That is a nice story. But you only mentioned that these "pros" were
using stimulants to ramp up training volume. What "shit" to enhance
recovery do they pair up the simulants with?

It's a simple question.

Dumbass,

For God's sake don't be so naive. Schwartz is a
Masters racer. Just because young and naive
riders like Floyd and Levi share their doping protocols,
if not the actual needles, doesn't mean an old
and guileful Masters Fattie is going to explain
his program to you. Especially not for free on the
Internets. Masters racing isn't like the pros where
there's some level of winking and camaraderie.
We are talking real competition here, buddy.

Dumbass, or Joe Papp,

Flintstein explained why doping with stimulants is dumb.
In 1996 even caffeine (and pseudoephedrine, i.e. cold meds)
were on the banned list (although you'd have to drink a pissload
of coffee to get done for it).

As for self-righteous, I think you don't understand what it means.
The self-righteous condemn others from a position of their
own asserted virtue. I don't assert a greater virtue here. I just
don't think the fact that Levi got suspended for 3 months in 1996,
and it is a fact, is very interesting. If I believed in a dichotomy
between cyclists who were pure as the driven snow and
full-on dirty dog dopers, I might care, but I don't believe in that.

Did you read the original sfweekly blog? It combined poking
fun at Santa Rosa papers for saying Levi must be clean because
he's our local nice guy (which I agree is stupid) with dumb shit
like "The tables then listed dozens of banned medicines with
hard-to-pronounce names such as ephedrine, picrotoxine, and
etafedrine." Oh please. Then I learn from the comments that
this was dug up by the dogged detective work of ... Joe Papp!
WTF is Papp doing? Is he trying to have a religious conversion -
now that he's confessed to all sorts of doping offenses, he
goes around popping up whenever dope is the subject like
a fucking Where's Waldo? He showed up at the Landis hearing too,
for no reason that I or the CAS could understand.
