I recently had routine blood tests done. Along with a lot of cryptic
abbreviations is one HCT. Is this the same thing that gets racers in
trouble if it is too high?

No mine isn't that high.
Thanks

Yes.

Good: more room for improvement. Call the good doctor.

I'm familiar with the first two on this list. The second one is
hematocrit - I think the upper limit is 50 for male cyclists, isn't it?

I actually got red-lighted for this on a recent blood test - my
physician then pointed out to me that that idiot who drew my blood had
checked off "female" and that's why mine showed as abnormally high.
(Yes, you can make all the jokes you like about that.) The lab redid
the paperwork with my correct gender and, lo and behold, my hematocrit
became normal again.

The second one is hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic drug often taken by
people with high blood pressure. My father, who has congestive heart
failure and high blood pressure, takes it every day. It's banned in any
drug-tested sport so far as I know, so your level of that HCT can get
you in trouble, too.

HCT = hematocrit, where crit has nothing to do with criterium.

Tell your doctor there's a little something in it for him if he can jack
your number up to 60.
