I have a friend who works for the Republican National Committee.
According to her, allegedly Romney's house was getting swept by the
Secret Service. He was chosen as the running mate.

Background: McCain really did not like Romney during the primaries.
Was really offended by some of his attack ads.

Back to last week: allegedly, McCain and Romney got into a fight about
something. Romney was too stupid to recognize who was boss and that he
should back down. McCain loses his famous temper. Decides spur of the
moment to dump Romney and go w/ Palin.

Hence the lack of vetting for the Palin candidacy when they had months
and months to do so.

Remember, this is all just grapevine. Take it for what it's worth.

Allegedly.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.

Sounds plausible.... but I would pick better friends. Actually I live
in Texas and am surrounded by them.

For weeks MSNBC was saying that McCain was taking the advice of
whomever he spoke with last. This doesn't conflict with your info but
could add to its credibility. It's the kind of decision that looks
like he didn't speak with anyone.

And there's certainly no conflict in any report that shows Mitt as a
pompous ass, I work in the VC community and his reputation is as
established as Michael Bolton's is with 1st class flight attendants on
American Airlines.

Ask any one of them "who's the biggest jackass you've ever has as a
passenger?" Hands down, 100% of the time it's MB.

True or not, seems consistent with what we've been hearing about his

Yeah. I stopped when the casualties got a little too close to home.
Fortunately, he's alive; unfortunately, he's missing part of a leg. It
made me think about two things: first, that I'd been ignoring
injuries; and second, that it happened at a time when total casualties
were going down and everyone seemed to be crowing about success.

Indeed. So its worth absolutely nothing

Lets see....so far we have heard from the Leftards that

1. Palin covered up her daughters last pregnancy..claimed it was her

2. McCain was sleeping with Palin (...seems the Clinton Legacy

3. Palin is a shrill harridian who throws tantrums to get her own way
4. Palin only Seems to be human. (?????)

It will be interesting to see what trash the Leftards will be talking

are going to rumor as much horrific shit as they can, as fast as they
can in the hopes of poisoning her with the public.

Palin Almost Recalled As Mayor

Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin?

The other day, I wrote about how Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit
hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor, firing
the Public Safety Commissioner when he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law,
lied about pressuring the guy to do so, and then showed keen judgment by
replacing him with someone who had to resign in two weeks because of sexual
harassment problems.

Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was
nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not
supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.

Yes, that's right. Hack n' Sack Sarah didn't even try to hide it. She didn't
say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she
fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (i.e., not
endorsing her for Mayor).

Seriously, though, we're coming off eight years of cronyism and inept
leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job
Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal. Sarah Palin's emerging record as
Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that
(though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).

But it is a glimpse into the type of "leader" she is. An inept hack, in the
George W. Bush mold, who was so brazen with the little power she was given
that she faced citizens trying to remove her from office. Did John McCain
even ask her about this, the one time he talked to her on the phone before
picking her?

If John McCain wanted a woman on the ticket, there were plenty of
conservative women to choose from, who have a respectable record as public
officials, and who would arguably be ready to be Commander in Chief. That he
chose Sarah Palin, who is nothing short of an embarrassment, speaks volumes
about the kind of judgment McCain will show as President. For if he's
willing to put a nearly-recalled, under-investigation inept hack one
heartbeat away from the Presidency, what kind of judgment will he show when
choosing Judges and Justices, Secretaries of top departments, and
administrators of lead agencies?

This isn't putting Country First. It's putting Political PR first (and not
even good PR at that). Sarah Palin as a VP nominee is an affront to the
intelligence of every American, and a freakin' embarrassment.

Well done, John McCain. You've shown possibly even worse judgment than
George W. Bush, which until now was almost an impossibly high bar to meet.

Something tells me Sarah can take of herself:

McCain aides whose judgment I trust are impressed by Sarah Palin. One was
particularly amused by this exchange: A nervous young McCain staffer took it
upon himself to explain to Palin the facts of life in a national campaign, the
intense scrutiny she'd be under from the media, the viciousness of the assault
that she'd be facing, etc.:

Palin: "Thanks for the warning. By the way, do you know what they say the
difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?"

McCain aide: "No, Governor."

Palin: "A hockey mom wears lipstick."

Questions surround Palin's background check

IN DEPTH? In Alaska, very few people were involved in the GOP vetting
process.

By RICHARD MAUER, LISA DEMER and SEAN COCKERHAM
Anchorage Daily News

Published: September 2nd, 2008 12:01 AM
Last Modified: September 2nd, 2008 01:29 AM

Gov. Sarah Palin's reluctant announcement Monday that her unmarried,
teenage daughter was within months of making her a grandmother at age
44 also turned a spotlight on Sen. John McCain, who would have Palin
as his vice president.

McCain's presidential campaign spent the day trying to assure fellow
Republicans and the nation that Palin's background was thoroughly
vetted. The pregnancy of Bristol Palin, 17, came as no surprise to
them, they said.

But in Alaska, it was hard to find anyone who had been contacted by
McCain's campaign.

Thomas Van Flein, the Anchorage lawyer representing Palin and her
office in the legislature's investigation into the firing of former
Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, said he spoke to several
representatives from McCain before Palin's selection was announced
Friday.

But Van Flein appears to be in a small minority in the vetting of
Palin.

The former U.S. attorney for Alaska, Wev Shea, who enthusiastically
recommended Palin back in March, said he was never contacted with any
follow-up questions.

Chris Coleman, one of Palin's next-door neighbors, said no one
representing McCain spoke to him about Palin. Another neighbor also
was never contacted, he said Monday.

Republican Gail Phillips, a former speaker of the Alaska House, said
Friday that she was shocked by McCain's selection of Palin and told
her husband, Walt, "This can't be happening because his advance team
didn't come to Alaska to check her out." She said she would've heard
had someone been poking around.

"We're not a very big state," Phillips said. "People I talk to
would've heard something."

Monegan, fired by Palin in July, said that no one from the McCain
campaign contacted him, either. His firing is now the subject of a
special legislative investigation into whether Palin or members of her
administration improperly interfered with the running of his
department by pushing for dismissal of a state trooper involved in a
divorce and custody battle with Palin's sister.

Alaska Senate President Lyda Green, R-Wasilla, told The New York
Times, "They didn't speak to anyone in the Legislature, they didn't
speak to anyone in the business community."

Wasilla Mayor Dianne Keller said she had not heard of any efforts to
look into Palin's background, the Times reported. And Randy Ruedrich,
the state Republican Party chairman, said he knew nothing of any
vetting that had been conducted.

State Sen. Hollis French, a Democrat who is directing the legislative
investigation, said that no one asked him about the allegations. "I
heard not a word, not a single contact," he told the Times.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough Mayor Curt Menard told the Daily News, "I
never got called, and I never heard of anybody who got called."
Perhaps, he laughed, "They don't even know where the Mat-Su Borough
is."

Dan Seamount, who served with Palin and Ruedrich on the Alaska Oil and
Gas Conservation Commission, wasn't contacted, either.

"I was taken by surprise just like everybody else," Seamount told the
Daily News.

Seamount's observations might be of particular interest since he saw
first hand how Palin was drawn into investigating Ruedrich for ethics
violations in 2003. The case eventually led to Ruedrich being fined
$12,000 and to Palin being thrust into the limelight as an ethics
reformer in her own party.

On Sunday, The Washington Post quoted McCain campaign manager Rick
Davis as saying the FBI conducted a background check of Palin.

But Monday, the FBI told the Atlantic Monthly no such check took
place.

"In general, we do not do vetting for political campaigns except as it
might regard investigations needed for security clearances," the
magazine's Web site quoted John Miller, the chief FBI spokesman. If
the agency had conducted a security check of Palin, it wouldn't have
shared it with the campaign, the magazine said.

"Leftards"? We abort our mentally defective fetuses. Obviously your
mom decided to keep her Downs Syndrome fetus like Palin did. Wouldn't
it be wonderful if all women were forced to bear their Downs Syndrome
babies instead of aborting them as 9 out of 10 now do (statistic from

Um... no. Then the whole country would be "mentally handicapped" like

McCain doesn't need any help from Clinton when it comes to
infidelity. His current wife was the original Monica- the kind of
woman who sleeps with married men. McCain was boning her for a year
before he got around to dumping his first wife.

McCain is a self-described Conservative Catholic Republican who
divorced his wife and the mother of his kids to trade up to a rich
blonde half his age. You know- a Paris Hilton type. Cindy McCain is
what Conservative Catholic Republicans would call a whore- if she were
a Democrat.

Won't it be wonderful to have her as First Lady? What an example for
our daughters. Whore around, become First Lady.

I am blessed with a mentally handicapped kid. And yeah I take care of him
and probably will forever. Assholes like you insure there's little aid or
education for kids who aren't normal. You'll never see a teachers union
endorsing anyone but a Democrat and they would much prefer to never have
to deal with handicapped kids in their classrooms. I get it. Handicapped
kids aren't worth the trouble. They are a burden. I've heard it all. It
wouldn't take much to convince the likes of you to round them all up and
murder them, born or otherwise.

I'm not against anyones choice to terminate a pregnancy known to be
Down's Syndrome. It's wrong in my opinion but I understand not everyone
has the moral fortitude to choose the right and extremely difficult road.
Though my kid isn't Down's, I know the ball park the Palin's will be
playing in very well. It won't be easy for them and it is a lifetime
commitment.

Unfortunately not every mental handicap or disease can be diagnosed in
the womb either. People like you who think it's just fine to make light
of a handicapped person's situation are the real problem. Too bad they
have civil rights too, eh Adolf? Maybe someday you'll see the light and
know that being born with a disease or defect really isn't any different
than being born with different skin color. Or that people of faith have
the same rights as those without.

You talk a good game about rights, like the right to choose. Yet you
choose to denigrate humans who are the way they are through no fault of
their own. They are simply born the way they are and they have the same
rights as everyone else. Including the right to have a life.

When they told us that we'd be lucky if our kid would ever learn to tie
his shoes, I chose to believe that he could do better. My wife quit her
job and stayed home with him and we began the very long road to finding a
way to educate him. When the school district wouldn't educate him, I
couldn't afford a lawyer, so I downloaded the civil rights laws, studied
them, and made the district and their lawyers look like fools in court. I
was right and determined. They were wrong and lazy. They thought they
were smarter than my wife and me just because we had a mentally
challenged kid. They were very wrong.

My kid just started his freshman year at the local community college.
Like everything else in his life so far, it will be a monumental
struggle. But I have faith in him and we'll be there for him when he
needs us. I don't regret for a moment the sacrifices we made for him.
He's doing well for a kid whose case was hopeless.

It's a shame people are so willing to give up and do what is easy. It
used to be that Democrats valued doing what was right and just even if it
was hard. They stood up for the sick and disadvantaged. The party has
been corrupted by the amoral likes of you, who can't see that there are
other measures to the worth of a fellow human besides IQ.

Mentally handicapped folks know they are different. They have feelings
like anybody else. They ache with the desire to be normal. When you toss
around their handicap as an insult, do you have any idea how they feel
about it? When you advocate terminating the lives of kids who will be
born just like them, do you suppose they are filled with happiness and
joy over your words?

You're a loathsome creep for using your bigotry against the handicapped
to push your political agenda.

If 72 year old McCain were elected and kicked the bucket, she'd be a
fantastic choice to be in charge of America's foreign policy. Out of
the millions and millions of Republicans in this country, it's safe to
say that McCain could not have picked a more qualified potential
president than Sarah Palin, helper at her husband's business before
she got into politics.

Paul's in his own little special category. Don't waste your time.
Awesome story. My Wife and I officiate at our Special Olympics cycling
events and those are always some of our best weekends. It's especially
fantastic to watch the younger racers grow from year to year, and have
so much fun too.
My wife's Dad was a special ed teacher for 30 years who finally got
fed up and helped a bunch of the families of his and other kids sue
the district and win to get them decent treatment. needless to see he
retired immediately if not sooner from the backlash, and burnout from
working to help the kids, buying supplies and stuff out of his own
pocket, and having to fight his own system constently.
The last straw for him was a kid he'd worked with for years who was
finally fairly emotionally stable and happy to be at school, and was
doing fairly well. They decided to "mainstream" the kid to save money,
over vehement protests. The kid ended up having a complete breakdown
and went back into his shell. Years of slow patient growth, down the
drain.

Thanks

If *you* are "taking care of him," then you shouldn't need any aid.

I would abolish all state and federal education funding, regardless of
the "needs" of anyone. Federal involvement in education is flatly
illegal. So is any kind of welfare benefit or old age benefit.

It is fine if you want to take care of someone. Make it mean
something by doing it yourself or accepting only voluntary aid. I

We all do. On that subject there's the stonewalling of stem cell
research, along with cloning for transplant organs, etc...brought to
us by the folks who see it as an affront to god. Everyone who's had to
suffer for a minute longer than needed because of these clowns should
get to deliver at least one free kick into their nuts, or sue them for
causing unecessary pain and suffering.
Not gonna happen though. Lots of these folks are the same type that
delayed and blocked the investigation, of, and charges for our
wonderful Archbishop of Boston for covering up, moving criminals
around to hide them, getting them out of the Country, obstructing
justice, etc...in our "pedophile priest" party here. Wonderful
Cardinal Law, how ironic is that, was going to use his diplomatic
immunity, Vatican Passport, and lack of an extradition treaty to CYA
himself anyway, but the good Irish Catholic law enforcement types here
dragged their feet and decided not to charge him with anything.
The we get this:

http://www.snapnetwork.org/news/vatican/law_leads_Vatican_mass.htm

VATICAN CITY, April 11 - Less than two and a half years after he
resigned as archbishop of Boston under pressure over his failure to
remove pedophile priests from the ministry, Cardinal Bernard F. Law
led thousands of worshipers in a memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II
on Monday from the altar of the majestic St. Peter's Basilica.

The cardinal, who had been deeply reviled in his own diocese, read a
homily praising John Paul, who had been greatly revered in his home
diocese of Rome. "In these past few days, we experienced the touching
love of the city of Rome for their pastor, a love that the pope
returned," Cardinal Law said, in fluent Italian.

This is the "moral" authority we are supposed to bow down to.
I'd say fuck 'em if that didn't get 'em excited and happy.

Why? If the pick of Palin craters due to exposure of unfavorables,
that ought to be something to make a democrat overjoyed about. The
most important thing about the Palin pick is what it does for McCain's
electability. None of us know that yet, but it certainly peaked the
christian base, and it is possible it picks up more "middle swing
voters." That could be the difference, and that I believe is why the
democrats are completely phreaking out.

For months and months on end, Obama had a lock on media coverage. He
even has his own channel and own show (The Keith Obamaman Show).
Obama descended from the clouds and made his symphonic speech to the
faithful on Thursday. Friday morning, McCain sez, btw, I choose Sarah
Palin.

Smackdown.

/The Media's/ and /The Faithful's/ Obama Rapture is over in an
instant. No one is even talking about razor thin Obama anymore. They
are talking about Sarah Palin. They are even talking about her
daughter and her baby. Who the fuck is Obama? Panic.

Smackdown.

If you're trying to make a point about McCain's decision making
capability, you should be talking about *almost* picking Joe
Lieberman. It would have been the most retarded pick possible and he
almost did it! I don't mean about Joe's personal skills, merits or
even de-merits. I am talking about how utterly stupid it would have
been from a political sense -- the sense of getting elected. Sure,
Palin was a very big roll of the dice, but I sorta think McCain really
had little to lose. I have seen nothing but the weakest arguments to
date about "bad decision making" as it pertains to Palin. From the
political perspective, it was an acceptable but non-trivial risk,
imo. I understand the pick in that way.

Giving up or softening the "Obama is inexperienced" argument was a
price to pay when choosing Palin. But the tradeoffs, should it pan
out, were deemed to be worth taking the chance. Again, he had nothing
to really lose, since he was going to lose.

What I like about the rhetoric of change is Obama picking an insider
for the VP. Bigger government, More Intrusion, Higher Taxes. Change
You Can Believe In. "Change" you know is nothing new and that you can
believe will happen, like it has been happening since hoover/fdr.
When a statist sez they are a statist, I believe them.

Asshole. You're just trying to look more heartless than me, and it's
not going to work. For the record, if I could I would reduce the
spending on these "special" kids to the same level as the other kids,
no more, no less. In my local school district they spend an
astronomical sum on "special" "education". They get single digit

the money would flow.

It's not farfetched at all. McCain is 72. According to this:

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hus/hus07.pdf#027

the remaining life expectancy is north of 11 years for a white male
who is 75. McCain's had some problems though. He's already had cancer.

So, it's very legitimate to examine the worthiness of his erstwhile
successor.

Four times.
The life expectancy of a seventy two year old battered and broken man who
has survived multiple bouts with a deadly cancer is effectively zero.

It is indeed.
It's also worth mentioning that no Senator elected President ever served a
full term in office.
Not one.

Hey, I think funding the war in Iraq ought to be voluntary. Those of
you who think it's worth a trillion dollars can pay for it. Or this
just in, "Bush announces $1 billion in aid for Georgia", that would be
the foreign country. Let's make paying for that voluntary.

His mom is still alive. My dad is 86 next week, has been living with
cancer for probably 10-15 years (5 years for sure). He is ambulatory,
not demented (or no more demented than he was when I was growing up)
still drives and has a lady friend. I'd probably vote for him too (but
I might have to think about it a bit).
What percentage of statistics are made up on the spot?

It's ALWAYS legitimate to examine the worthiness of vice presidential
candidates. In my lifetime Kennedy got killed, Reagan got shot, and
Ford survived two assassination attempts.

Palin is a great choice- from Obama's perspective. She's going to
help get him elected. She proves McCain has poor judgment. I'm
delighted with her. The way things are going, the next bombshell is
going to be that her husband is actually the father of her daughter's
baby.

Hey thank you! From you that's a compliment. I try my best but..
better than the posters on dailyKOS? Wow, I'm in the big leagues. So
you never answered my question- do you hold hands with men like your
hero Bush? Do you kiss 'em? Do they fly in from Saudi Arabia to have
a "private session" with you at your secluded ranch? Just wondering.
I hear the Saudi king gave Bush a lifetime supply of a certain
petroleum product. The king likes to keep his boys well lubed.

You seem like the kind of guy who emulates his heroes. Check this one
out, they look like they just got gay married!

Wow, Greg, you really haven't been paying much attention to the media if you
actually believe that. The media *loves* Maverick McMaverick and has gone so far out
of its way to ignore thr fact that he hasn't just "flip-flopped" on every issue, he's
been on every side possible. They go to barbecues at his "rustic cabin" (that's so
rustic it has a guest house and pool) and bring him boxes of doughnuts (see, we can
too get it back to bike racing in these threads). He has stated that the media is his
base - and not for good reason.

that far off hers. He wins the jowl contest hands down, however.
