Today was a good day. First, Hiddink won. Then I went for a ride, easy
recovering from yesterday and the day before when I did the 60km @53x16
never below 80rpm. Quite a lot of wind today in the polders west from
Utrecht, just moving the legs nicely up and down 90-100 @39x14. Still, I
was fairly tired and began to slowly turn back home at km 35, getting the
wind in the back again.

Then, swoosh, hey! Michael Boogerd going left just as I turn right. Errr,
wait up that's too good to let go. So I turn and hammer for a minute until
I catch up to him. Okay cool, hey Michael, big fan. MB: huh, oh hello,
okay. Follows some chit chat about Route du Sud (Yeah Dekker's gonna be
fine again, he's doing well), the Tour: he's planning to grow into it,
being maybe not so good at the start and doing good stuff later on.

He is doing easy training, riding from The Hague to Steenwijk, some 200 km.
I'm playing cool ofcourse, hands on the hoods, 38km/h. I don't see him
carrying much to eat, MB: No, I'm not stopping for apple pie, I went with 2
sandwiches, that's about enough. I mean to ask him if he ever visits rbr,
so I gently introduce: So Micheal, do you ever go on the internet? MB: No.
ED: Oh, err.. oh. Hmm. So that's a dead end.

After 15km or so we enter Utrecht, I let him pass the high bridge on the
Amsterdam-Rhine canal first, good for his morale. We pass a lot of traffic
lights and crossings, blow them all. I warn him just in time for a
streetcar, nice going. The tramdriver honks and gestures, Michael waves
back, yes hello we see you too; I laugh. At some point I have to turn left
to go home, in fact we almost pass by it and I hesitate to ask him over for
pizza but he's going straight on, one sandwich left, 100km to go. Good
luck, seeya.

ED.

I always thought they have a better carburator, though no bigger tank.

Did he have plain blue amateurish looking shorts and lots of bloody
bandages? If so, it was probably him.

Thanks,

WTF, thought that was pretty cool but I get one mail from an obscure
Australo-Belgian guy who says he does that sort of thing everyday and
doesn't write about it on rbr, and here it gets turned into: I saw a
cyclist in CSC kit, could it be TYLER?!

Never mind, I'll update my story; I forgot some funny bits.

He only had a heartrate monitor on the bars, so he leaned over to have a
look at my speedometer, but it was indicating cadence, 95. MB: "Well hoho,
you're going fast! Is that for the morale?!"

I was wearing the blue sprinter's jersey from the Tour of the Basque Country
(bought it online). At some point Michael looks to me and asks, "Hey what
kind of jersey are you wearing there anyway?" He recognised it: "Hell I
didn't know you could *buy* these." I'm ofcourse immediately apologising,
but he's taking it well, and smirking: "You know I have one of those in
yellow.." In fact he's really sort of boasting then, that he won a stage
and wore the leader's jersey for four days and how tough that race is. Like
he needs to impress me, ha!

*Every* time we accelerate (after sharp turns, crossings etc) I win 2 bike
lengths, hehehe. I guess he really does sprint like a flatiron. Or maybe I
was trying to justify my jersey :) Or *maybe* he was committing to his
steady-state training like a pro.

That's it, back to whacking off on the Wielerrevue. Next pro spotting's
gonna be on the Ghent canal ride.

Should have told him to get off those ADA's that were almost the death
of him last month :-)

I am deeply concerned about the mental well-being of your country.
First the collective LSD-trip for Pim F., now this.....
