September 17th, 1997
Dear Recumbent Enthusiasts,
This is just a quick note on what is happening at Recumbent Cyclist News:
RCN#41 was mailed out September 17, 1997 This is the September/October '97
issue.
Supporter/Deluxe subscribers should have their issues by Saturday Sept. 22nd.
Standard subscribers (bulk mail) expect delivery October 25th (contact us
by this date if you haven't received your issue).
European issues are being shipped to the UK on Monday for delivery by Oct. 15.
The following articles are included in our newest issue:
*Penile Numbness/Roadie Rant Editorial! by Robert Bryant. I'll bet you
can't wait to read this one......Road bikes are slow, painful, and
recumbents kick butt.
*The Angletech Altitude: by Robert Bryant. The $3,600 Altitude is a
full suspension SWB dual 20" wheel model developed by Angletech in
conjunction with Boulder Mountain Bikes. This test is not what you'd
expect. Find new insight into the Angletech treatment, high-tech doo dads
with lots of component and R & D rants from Bob.
*HPM Tritan Trike: by Robert Bryant. This trike started out several years
ago as the Ryan Recumbents trike. The two-wheel-in-back design has been
dialed and perfected by Jan Vander Tuin of CAT in Eugene, Oregon. Find out
why this isn't your average super-low sports racer trike.
*Design a Single Track Vehicle for Handling Qualities by Bill Patterson.
Bill has developed an interesting theory/formula for recumbent
stability/handling analysis. Read about it ONLY in RCN!
*The Haluzak Hybrid Race: by Robert Bryant. Not your average Haluzak. We
got the light one, with optional above seat steering. It's smooth and rides
sweet, but does the frame flex too much and is the bike too tall? RCN
addresses these questions and more.
*'Bent Touring: Kiwi Adventure: by Cheryl Fisher. An adventure down under
on a Vision SWB.
*"Bent Touring: Vision Quest: by Gene Standley Another tourist with a
Vision. Gene has been cycle-touring since 1958...and we have pictures.
*The Best Clipless Pedals for Recumbents: by Richard Drdul What can we
say. Richard calls them like he sees them.
*Effective Cycling Rules: by Ryan Young This is brief discussion of
John Forester's cycling Bible and discussion of how Mr. Forester doesn't
seem to like recumbents very much. With this book being the basis of
Effective Cycling courses nationwide, could this be a global conspiracy to
keep recumbent bicycles out of the lime-light!?
*Homebuilders Corner: How to Build a Bent...Cheap
by Dave Tipping Dave builds and rides cheap homebiults. He addresses the
rather lame comment, "who said hombuilders don't ride...." (I think Bob
Bryant said something like that)....and we've proved him wrong.
*Recumbent News & Rumors
*1997 Calendar & Nationwide Rider Group Update
*The Largest Recumbent Classified Ad section in the world! If you would
like to run a classified ad for your used recumbent, send the ad within the
