I am going to college here in Chicago and the thing I miss most from
home is the great outdoors. Being from California, I am accustomed to
lots of public land and lots of areas to hike and pack in for a few days.
Does anyone know of any place around here I can do that? I am looking for
short (about 3 days) and longer (about 7 days) hiking areas. Something with
nice scenery is a must.

So far my experiences have been anything but nice. I drove to
Wis. only to find the state trail was nothing more than a trail next to a major
highway, and the dunes in IN were right between train tracks, a highway, and
a large steel mill. I am dying here! Anyone with any info, please respond.

If possible, please email!

Thank you,

I have been living in Belleville, IL (across from St. Louis, MO) for almost
two years. I am originally from Washington State so I know what you are going
through. I don't know much about the Northern part of IL, but there are some
trails through the National Forests and State Parks in Southern IL. However,
most of them are just day or overnight trips, not long, multi-day trips (like
the Pacific Crest).
