I'm going down to Seattle next week. Are there any outdoor equipment/clothing
stores that I should go to? BTW where is REI in Seattle located?

Try the Swallows Nest at 2308 Sixth Street, Seattle; it is a great
mountaineering store that has a great selection. Bob

If you shop in the USA, beware of the prices. For many items it is cheaper
to buy right here at home. This is mainly due to the current exchange rate
of the $CDN. I am in Seattle quite a bit, and have found there is nothing
really that I can't get locally. Some things such as climbing gear is much
better priced at MEC.

I would suggest taking the MEC catalog, and others that are pertinent to your
interests, and compare prices taking into account sales taxes and exchange
rate.

Have fun in Seattle, it is a great city.

^^^^^^^^

What is MEC? Is it a retail store in Vancouver or mail order? Is it
worth it for a Seattle resident such as myself to check it out next time
I'm in Vancouver?

As long as you're in beautiful downtown Lynnwood (most fast food
restaurants per mile in the state!) check out Sports Replay, Ed's
Surplus and Marine, and Olympic Sports. All are located on 196th in
Lynnwood. (Bring reading material for waiting at the stoplights in
Lynnwood. Something light, like War and Peace.)

The "MEC" is the Mountain Equipment Coop, a cooperative run similar
to REI. The prices are definately competitive, and most times better,
although if you go mail order, you will have to pay duty I suppose.
The prices still may compete. The catalog can be order through:

1-800-663-2667 in USA and Canada. In Vancouver the store is located
at:

428 West 8th Ave.

Check it out!! No I am not an employee, just a loyal shopper.
