I don't know the official line but I have some tips for you. First of all
there is no need to put it in the dryer as you could simply shake it to
remove most of the water and the it dries very quickly. No need to waste
energy with dryer.

Second, I remember Patagonia recommending turning fleece inside out and then
washing it.

The only problem I seem to be having is to atract lint from the washmachine.

Hello,

I'm no expert on fabric care but I think a hand washing in the tub/sink
would be better than running it through the washing machine. Hang it up on a
plastic hanger to dry at room temperature.

Remember that one of the reasons you are buying fleece is that it
absorbs very little water. Rather than risk any problems from a dryer
that gets too hot, and save electricity/gas/quarters (depending on
your dryer, just hang it up.

Happy trails,

Nice thing about fleece is it's easy to wash and holds relatively little
water.

Chuck it in the machine, do a coloureds wash, end of problem. The spin
cycle at the end will get most of the water out: just hang it up for a
couple of hours to finish it off (I don't have a dryer), though a lowish
temp dry will speed things up if you really can't wait.

If you'll have it as an outer fabric in rain or drizzle use soap rather
than detergent and maybe wash it through with something like Nikwax
TX10, and that's about it as regards care.

Pete.

instructions say not to use any fabric softeners. i dont think it really
matters. wash warm or cold. i second the recommendation not to dry. while
the garments dont shrink like cotten, they will shrink nontheless over
many washes and dries. i have an ancient Pat. synchilla snap-T. about 15y
old and tons of washes and dries. i think it is a size smaller now than
when i bought it. ergo...i dont dry my fleece or polypro garments anymore.
hang dry them...my advice.

Say, anyone thought to call patagonia customer service to ask them? I'd
post the number but I don't have it. I always throw my fleece in the
washer with detergent and either dry it on low or hang it to dry.

I too have always thrown my Patagonia fleece in the regular wash and dry
- it still looks great after many years - and washings -didn't shrink at
all.

Just my 2 cents!

My Synchilla will be ten next year. Washed AND dried according to label
instructions. No problems with shrinkage, pilling, etc. I use drier on
"fluff" or no heat setting for 20-30 minutes to get lint, hair, etc. out
then hang it up in the closet.

I'd be leery of trying to shrink fleece. I suspect you would change the character
of the fabric, reducing the dead air spaces thus reducing the insulation value.
Shrinking is like to affect thickness as well as the other dimensions.

I'd toss it out and buy from a brand that sticks to clothing manufacturing instead of trying to tell us all how to think.

Because encouraging sustainable commerce and low carbon footprint living is such a crime... yeah let's not support a company that wants the best for our environment. SMH.
