New to this group.
Hello, and thanks for the existing messages that have been interesting
to read.

I am looking for a solo three-season tent, and am seriously considering
the Walrus Microswift (will be $100 at REI sale). It got some good nods
from the latest backpacker magazine, and other rags.
I'll be doing most of my trips in the Southwest (Texas, N. Mexico,
Colorado)
I'm quite new to backpacking, and am looking to keep weight to a minimum
as I build my equipment list. I'd like to keep my pack inside. This
seems important, is it?
Other contenders (Eureka Zephyr XT, Kelty Clarke)

I'm about 5'8", 170lbs.

Depends on what you have in your pack in the way of food and what type
of critters are around. Bears, etc.

might as well check out bivys, that thing is tiny! I sincerely doubt you'll
be able to keep your pack inside unless you don't mind sleeping under it.
I'd recommend heading out to your local store and laying in the thing for a
while before you decide... Just my .02...

I own a Walrus Microswift and am happy with it.Ive only used it for on
a couple of extended weekend trips so far.It was a toss up between the
Microswift and a bivy sack.
A bivy was a minimum of $70 more so I went with the Microswift although it
is a tad heavier than a bivy.It set up easy. There is just enough room to
prop up on your elbow to read at night. If you have the need to dress or do
much else in it good luck!I have not encountered any rain yet but the fly
seems to cover well enough that rain shouldnt cause any problems.Without the
fly the tent is well ventilated for warm weather use. Before you make your
purchase set up the tent at the store to make sure the small size is for
you.Gear storage could be a problem if you like to bring your pack in the
tent.A pack would probably not fit in the small vestibule unless its a small
one.YMMV good luck...
happy packing......Lou

What's the difference between the Microswift and the Swift? I notice
in the specs that it's a few ounces lighter. Is it smaller?
