My experience with the HKS is that it is a little bit
more powerful than the 503 dual carb Rotax, but not as
powerfull as the 582.
It appears that it MAY have problems on some engines,
with the valve train, and overheating. Some reports
indicate that these problems are being addressed by
the manufacturer, while others indicate indifference.
It appear to be a very pricey engine for horsepower,
when compared to the 912 which is probably the highest
priced on the market.
Other disadvantages appear to be parts and service. A
manufacturer that you might want to contact would be
the Thunder Gull people. They have flown on it, the
503, 912, and David engines - so they would probably
be able to give you a much better "educated" opinion
on the engine.
