Somewhere around my house I think I have plans for an ultralight I think was
called the "Ritz Standard". Anybody know of any of these around or what became
of the design?

From what my feeble mind recalls: Jerry Ritz took a low level,
high speed (!) pass for a photographer, there was some flutter-
had to do with the aileron being operated by a pull cable and a
return spring. There was no counterbalance on the aileron. I
think a wing started to separate.. As I recall, there was some
mods called for after that. Regards Pat- who had to chainsaw a
ritz standard due to a move--Sigh!

After Loehle purchased entire Ritz operation amendment plans sets were
offered and advertised for correction to the Ritz's flaws for awhile
but I have never found anyone who acquired any. Mike Loehle will not
discuss the plane now. Anyone have any of the amended corrections ?
I have a set of origninal plans. Was a pretty neat plane except for
goofy (deasly) ailerons. It should be noted as a lesson for all
however that Jerry Ritz died flying greatly in excess of his own
published VNE speed while showing off. I quote an employee who
witnessed the crash.

I've got a chance to purchase a Ritz Standard A that is hanging in a barn with the wing and tail feathers off. The current owner does not have a clue if it was built with the design change to the ailerons or not. Is there anyway to verify if it's safe to fly by looking at the wing and ailerons? About all I could get out of the current owner is there are two cables to run the ailerons.

Thanks for any input you may have.

> Hi,
I have a Ritz Standard. If it has two wing spars. V struts, cables which are attached to both the top and the bottom of the aileron. Like the Cub or the Champ then you will have the revised version of the Ritz Standard.A revised rudder was another suggestion. I do have several of the revision news letters. The one I have is pictured in some of the web sights when you search, "Ritz Standard airplane". It is all silver and has the standard rudder. My Ritz has a Rotax 377 with a Powerfin carbon fiber prop. I flew it last week. It climb like a home sick angel. Is glides very nicely. I am in the process of fitting it with vortex generators on the wing, and the rudder. I believe the rudder needs more authority. As was suggested when all the improvements were made. I understand the liability concerns they had after they took over the Ritz operation, but if they have knowledge of other problems it would be nice to know. I know that at least one other Ritz is flying. It has all the upgrades and is in Canada. I will help with any questions. I realize there is very little information on current flying Ritz Standards.

Hi Brad,

Let me know if you got the Ritz. If you did I have some first hand knowledge that I will be glad to share. If you don't get it, I would be interested in it. I believe the revised Ritz had to overcome the sad events of its earlier model. The revised Ritz is a completely different airplane. It keep the good features and removed the weaknesses that caused the accident. When Mr. Ritz died I believe the Ritz Standard also died. This airplane is great for just looking around the country side. Landings are fun. It sets low.I am use to flying a Stinson 108-2 which set much higher. So on your first landing get her down before you flair. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best to you,
Wallace Mynatt
