I'm shopping for an ultralight aircraft, but it needs to be quiet or
people will likely complain. What kinds of
aircraft/options/modifications should I be looking at?

Thee-blade props, a slower spinning prop, 4 stroke engine rather than
2 stroke, after-market muffler?

I'm certain that there will be lots of opinions and answers to this
question. However, the quietest power plant I've witnessed was a
Rotax 582 with a Intake Silencer, muffler resonator and a 6 blade prop
turning at slow speeds (3.47 gear box?). It was on a Cosmos trike and
was incredibly quiet.

Now this was for those standing on the ground, not flying in the
ultralight. I've been in an ultralight with a HKS 4 stroke engine and
thought it was quieter than any Rotax equiped aircraft I've flown.
However, standing on the ground while the bird was on take off it was
louder than any engine I've ever experienced.

This is not a troll or a wise crack answer, but you may as well fly a rubber
band model cause when people see you having fun, They will complain. Human
Nature.

Wasn't there a thread a while back on solar-powered ul's? Came in on the
end, don't
know if any consenus was reached on feasability, but it would be quiet. :-)
