Back in the early 80's the B1RD was my first flight in an
ultralight... it flew easily and was very stable... my question
is since I've been away from aviation for quite some time and I
believe this plane isn't being produced anymore is there a craft
that is just as stable that will lift my large frame off the
ground with the same amout of safety designed into the plane... I
am under 250 but not a short guy... I have seen a number of other
types and I am not interested in paratypes... also since the B1RD
was a front prop is there a pusher type that fits in this
catagory that has the same level of safety/design... I don't want
to do acrobatics or speed at the limits of the type(ultralight
FARS) but I would like to take a camera/videocam,a bottle of soda
and a sandwich with me when I'm up again... the suggestions will
be used for my determining which plane to purchase...

Thanx
Bob Jr

There are still a lot of the B1-rds out there flying. If you do a search for
B1-rd ultra light ther is even a web sight for them. Several of those
pictured are for sale. Parts are also available for them. I think the rights
to B1-rds is owned by a airline pilot in Nevada. He has parts, supplies to
keep bot the B1-rds and the two place B2-rds flying.
I guess the point is NOTHING will beat a B1-rd, so see if you can find
one of the old Birds and have fun. Ken

I dont know what the B1RDs look like but i know the T-Birds built by Golden
Circle Air in Desoto Ia are very stable and can lift you easily off the
ground, many of the guys that fly from there are over 6' and heavy I am told
they have flown with 250 lbs plus the instructor in a T-Bird II without any
problem
check at www.aircraftsuper-market.com.
just my 2 cents worth.

I have a B1-RD Instructor #149 and the manual I have is for #348.
I can't find much on this plane, let alone the b1rd watcher group, this retired airline pilot in NV.
Nothing...

Any help you can give would be great!
