2021 was another remarkable year at Nephi with the Utah Soaring Association hosting the 18 meter nationals and a strong Region 9 contest. These contests were for the ages with most days racing tasks resulting in many flights averaging well over 100 mph! For our friends across the pond that's something like 3000km per hour isn't it? ;) We had fun.

So what's the plan at Nephi for 2022? We will NOT be holding any formal gliding events this year, however you can still come fly at Nephi as there will be daily tows, oxygen, and water available from June through September. We look forward to smaller groups of pilots planning on coming out to Nephi to fly for a few days to even a few weeks at a time during the summer. Come experience Nephi at its best but without the crowds of an organized event.

For more information to help plan a gliding trip in Nephi this summer, please contact John Gonthier who runs glider operations at Nephi:

Please remember in your plans that northern Utah is home to 4 great soaring locations to enjoy: Nephi, Heber, Morgan, and Logan. Make sure to visit some of these other soaring sites as well if you come out since each one is a very different and wonderful soaring location.

After organizing 12 soaring events over the last 8 years I need to take a year off and recover. Haha. Thanks for understanding. This does NOT mean that organized gliding events are permanently stopping at Nephi. Again, we are just taking a year off and hope to complete some much needed site and logistical upgrades at Nephi. An example is working on the western grass landing area to make it smoother and less rocky. We hope to do an organized soaring event in 2023 at Nephi.

Thanks again for all your enthusiasm, support, friendships, and words of encouragement. Also a huge thanks once again to all of the volunteers who have worked so hard to help make these events happen. It has been a lot of work but we have had a blast at these events. We look forward to flying with you when you come out, still hopefully this summer with some of your friends.

Many strong thermals and fly safe my soaring friends,
Bruno - B4
