I have seen hefty well-built trailers for large dual-place sailplanes with dual
axels, somewhat wider than those for a 15m ship and much more stable for
towing.

Are there in existence any custom designed trailers for two gliders in the same
box? i.e. wider axesl, more substansial frame, and four wheels?

Any references to past articles or contact info for owners of such?

I have some very preliminary drawings on my CAD system attempting to determine
the feasability of putting both of my 1-26's on the same trailer.

The main constraint is California law which permits axle widths up to 108".
Stuffing two fuselages and 4 wings between that is a challenge, but I am making
progress.

Keep in touch and I will forward my results.

Presuming there is no height limits, then you could have two sets of wings
on top above the fuselages, and two on each side, sort of like a car
transporter. I saw a trailor at Sutton bank the other day that looked like
a shed - I can't imagine what that would have towed like!

I have heard it said, but not seen the trailer, that one of the uk agents for a
well known manufacturer has a trailer which takes two single seaters, and is
used when they import a couple of gliders at a time.

Wayne Spani in Southern California made a trailer to hold his Bowlus Baby
Albatross and his Ka-8. This trailer went from So. Calif. to Elmira, NY and
return.

I have seen - nay, packed - a three-glider trailer. It's a "Queen Mary"
trailer made originally, I believe, for the RAF to carry a Venture (Falke)
motor glider. Brian Spreckley of the European Soaring Club has (or had) one
into which we packed three Pegases once. Two fuselages facing forwards on
each side, one facing backwards between 'em, wings and tails all over the
place. Towed just fine behind a big Mercedes estate.

the queen mary in question (brians) was sitting at dunstable a
few months ago until dug out to transport a robin of all things
out of the country (thought you might like a bit of background
info there)
