CAI-302 Utility Program

I can't find my copy of the CAI-302 utility program.  The link at Cumulus Soaring is dead.  Can anyone provide a working link or upload the program to the web for me to download?

I contacted Naviter earlier this summer asking about being able to load and
run the CAI Utilities on the Oudie.
They did respond with a process to do so, but I failed to get it to work.
My IT guy Richard at Craggy Aero also tried and was unsuccessful.

They update the Oudie software quite often.

I think if all us 302 / Oudie users sent them a email asking them to add
the option of loading the CAI Utility, or just have them do it,
maybe we could get this on our Oudies. It is quite handy to have; right
now I have to connect a near dead ipaq to get the full CAI Utility
function, Which means disconnecting and reconnecting cables, APITA.

I'm going to send them a request this morning on this issue, maybe if
everyone else who is interested in the this did too we could get
somewhere.

On the Naviter webpage header there is a Contact Us
Scroll down there and you can send them a email quite easily and my
experience is they do respond in a timely fashion unless they are at a
contest or convention.

Per your suggestion, I just sent a request to learn how to put the CAI Utility file (PC or IPAQ) onto the Oudie, if possible.

Gents -

A simple solution is to buy a serial converter cable from Cumulus Soaring. You take your laptop to the glider, hook it up, run the CAI Utility program, input all your information, and you are done.

You can easily upload waypoint files and tasks from the Oudie.

Can you not use the ConnectMe utility already installed on the Oudie, it is supposedly compatible with the Cambridge 302??

Hi,

The ConnectMe program works great for uploading task declarations to the 302
and downloading secure flight logs from the 302. However, it can't be used
to edit 302 settings or to load the pilot name. The 302 utility must be
used for those items. Fortunately, those settings only need to be setup
once. You can download versions for PC and PDA (not Oudie) here:

I am another person who would really like the Oudie to talk to the 302 so that settings like Ballast, Bugs, Polar (two different wings for my aircraft) could be set via the Oudie.
Is the problem that the Oudie people just don't want to install the software or is there a basic computer language problem with the systems?

I use a Dell Streak 5 running XCSoar which communicates with my 302 via Bluetooth (K6BT that I got from Cumulus).� It allows me to set MC, bugs, ballast, polar, pilot name, etc., and receives GPS data, wind, speed, etc. from the 302.� I know at least one person who runs XCSoar on his Oudie so perhaps that would be a way to achieve your goal.� XCSoar is FREE, so all you have to do is download and install it and you're ready to give it a try.� You can also download a PC version of the program to learn and practice with.

I started this thread a while back because I'd lost my copy of the 302 utility.� I got it from Paul's site and, one of these days, I'll carry my laptop to the airport and see if I have my name in the 302.� I probably did it with the Ipaq when I bought the glider.

BTW, when I've flown other gliders, it's been simple to select another polar from the list provided by the XCSoar executable.

There are two ways to use the CAI utility on Oudie:

1. Save it to the root of the microSD card and rename it to UpdateOudie.exe. Before you use Oudie for inflight navigation you will have to remove the card otherwise it will keep running the utility.

2. Overwrite the ConnectMe.exe in 2577 folder with the utility file. That will remove ConnectMe from your Oudie and the ConnectMe button will start the utility. You can get the ConnectMe back by reinstalling the firmware.

with all due respect, bringing my laptop to the airport, purchasing a converter cable, disconnecting my Oudie cable from my 302, connected this new cable, disconnecting the new cable and them rehooking up my Oudie cable does not sound simple to me. This is my point of my first post. We Should be able to bypass all of the above.
Simple to me is to have Naviter put the CAI Utility on the Oudie and then open the program with the touch of your finger and do your thing.

All you 302 + Oudie fans please shoot a email to Naviter and ask them to give use the option of loading the CAI Utility during the next update, I would hazard a guess it would be quite simple for them to do so and would be another great benefit of owning a Oudie.

Hi Nick,

Unfortunately, the problem is not a Naviter problem - it is a Cambridge
problem. The Cambridge 300 Utility can be copied to an Oudie, but it
doesn't seem to run well on an Oudie. It must be compiled for a processor
which is not compatible with the Oudie. Naviter doesn't have the original
Cambridge 300 Utility code - so they can't fix the problem. Cambridge is no
longer around, so they can't fix it either. ClearNav probably doesn't have
the code. Even if they did - they wouldn't be motivated to work on it.

Theoretically, Naviter could create screens in SeeYou Mobile which would
make it possible to edit the pilot name and polar data and logging interval
in the 302 (as is done with the LX1600). However, I doubt they would be
motivated to do that since 302 units are not as popular in Europe and are
being replaced with newer products (like the LXNAV V7) quite rapidly which
work great with SeeYou Mobile. If you are doing to lobby Naviter - lobby
that they add 302 support (pilot name, polar and logging interval settings)
to SeeYou Mobile. But I wouldn't expect much. Naviter would rather work on
new features which would apply to a larger population of SeeYou Mobile
users.

I love self-absorption. It's such a pleasure to watch.

Let me see: using a laptop on the field which you probably already had
in your car to use in the clubhouse and hooking and unhooking a cable is
much more difficult and stressful than re-writing parts of a large
application - including its tricky communication protocols, testing the
re-writes, re-writing to fix the faults, re-testing, etc and then
promulgating the result to hundreds of owners around the world - of whom
ONLY 10 GIVE A DAMN!

...and ALL of that 10 already own the program and wouldn't pay a penny
for the revision!

Now I'm as prospective an Oudie owner as any of the thousands of r.a.s.
readers who also don't own one. Will easier 302 compatibility make me
rush out and buy one? No. Will any price rise due to increased software
maintenance overheads make the Oudie a more attractive purchase to me
and thousands of other non-owners? No also.

It should be trivial for anybody with a soldering iron to make up a T-
cable (possibly with a switch in it) by combining the new cable and an
Oudie-compatible cable.

Thank you for response and the clear explanation why the CAI Utility is not compatible with the Oudie.
I know very little about software code and operating systems. The CAI utility, to me anyway, seemed to be a very simple program and I thought it would be easy to just Copy and Paste it into a Oudie. Obviously this is not the case.

Was saving these for glider use, but have stopped using consumer stuff hanging off the panel. I'm about to throw away two functional Dell C610/640 laptops with serial ports. They were going to the dump today, but I'll hold a couple of days.
This stuff is so old that one of these was replaced by a Macbook Pro which was replaced by a Dell Latitude, now replaced by a Dell XPS.
Free to a good home, pick up in Tehachapi, CA, USA.
