Just got this email, will try to find out what the width of the runway
is. It's good news for those of us that sometimes cross Death Valley
to get to the Sierra or Inyos.

Jim,
We recently lengthened and widened the Darwin airport (about 40
miles east of lone pine). It is now a good land out strip for glider
pilots. These are the coordinates wikipedia gives for the town;
36°16′05″N 117°35′30″W. The runway is approximately 2000' long and
pretty wide. Let people in the sport know if you could. Thanks.

After landing at Darwin, one of our guys asked a local, "What do you
do here in Darwin?" The Charlie Manson looking guy replied, "We take
turns being the town drunk!". Lovely place, Darwin, but most anything
beats the sage brush, now doesn't it?

A couple of months ago we checked out Darwin. It is 60'X2200' dirt
strip, that slopes to the south some. The south end is overgrown,
otherwise ok.You can look at the more detailed discription at;
