Any recommendations on a trainer for a 6'5" 225 lb student. Also, any
recommendations on a "comfortable fit" used ship to purchase in the $15-20K
range?

Trainer?? Grob-103 or ASK-21, Max weight per seat is about 240#, but watch
the total weight with the CFIG. Two big guys could have problems if there
have been repairs (adds weight) to the basic airframe.

Cheap plane to own for under $20K? not many to accommodate a 6'5", you may
find a nice Blanik L-33 for about $25K with trailer.

After you're well trained, Standard Jantar 2, no sweat.

And Puchacz before...
SZD-30 Pirat or SZD-51-1 Junior which has enough space for "overgrown
people" ;)
would be great single seat trainers for them.

I recommend a PW-6. The problem with ASK-21's and Grob 102'S is that if
you're big and heavy you seem to have to do a lot of work on the stick, on
the 21 you even run out of stick movement when thermalling tightly, the same
but less so on the 102's. The PW-6 is just great, it has the same incredibly
light movement and input that the PW-5 has and you will never run out of
stick. Max front cockpit loading is 242 Lbs., but you can change the CG
quite easily.

The PW-6 is also a better trainer in my opinion, it's not a tail dragger
thermals tons better than any twin I have ever flown in the trainer class (
DG 500's and Duo discus excluded ) and is just a joy to fly. For $31 500,
you just can't go wrong. If you compare them in back to back flying you will
never want to get into a 102 or ask21 again.

You will also have a 2 seat trainer that will be in heavy demand, so prices
are bound to go up slightly.

As for single seaters I can only recommend a new PW-5 for $19 900. You can
change the CG to accomodate up to 255 Lbs with slighly lower VA and VNE than
a standard JAR 22 spec. You won't feel the difference believe me.

I have flown 40 hours in mine in eight weeks and don't even fly the Pegasus
anymore. There's nothing that thermals like this thing that I'v ever flown
apart from a K6-E. ( back when I was 210 Lbs )

G103 and L-23 will both fit. Weight no problem as long as not much
equipment has been added to ship. Head and legroom is the problem.
Will be a tight fit, but then again, all gliders are snug.
