I live in Bethesda MD, and was wondering if anyone could help me select a
flight school to learn soaring. I am currently a non-practicing CFI, and
wish to use a glider add-on rating to renew my instructor's certificate.

Also, I have not seen any of the fabled FAQs in this area, how often are
they posted here? How often are the posted in general?

If your CFI is expired, you will have to take the airplane checkride also.

If yoru CFI is not expired, yes, you can renew it by accomplishing a new
CFI rating for gliders.

Go for it!
