Hi there,

I'll be in Ottawa some of next week + weekend, and
I wondered if there are any gliding clubs nearby.
And if glider pilots there actually commit any aviation
in the winter (as I'm sure you have a proper winter
in Canada - unlike the UK...)

Thanks

Claudia

check out www.gatineauglidingclub.ca I doubt if there is
any soaring going on, but you can always ask. Great club, about 35 miles SE
of the city.

In Eastern Canada, 2001-2002 winter is unusually mild, but
not enough to allow winter soaring.

All gliders are sleeping in hangars or trailers ; wake up is
forecast for April or later...

There are 3 clubs near Ottawa,

Gatineau Gliding Club is about 30 minutes drive to the east. However we don't
start to fly again until the snow has melted.

MSC is about a 50 minute drive to the east and will probably start up a bit
after Gatineau.

RVSS is to the south west (IIRC) of Ottawa and will probably start up again
about the same time as Gatineau.

So, probably no flying. However the Soaring Association of Canada's annual
general meeting is on March 9th if you will be around, contact s...@sac.ca for
details.

We are in the midst of a heavy snow storm right now. All gliding is
done via SFS v4 or replaying last years flights on SeeYou. However,
we can put on a gliding lunch one of the days you're here with some
other fanatics.
Cheers, Ulli Werneburg
