Hi, all! I've just started using XCSoar 7. My understanding is that it has an internal logger but, it doesn't seem to be saving flights anywhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

What device are you using it on? I am not sure about the very recent
versions of Android, but in the older versions the logs are saved in the
"logs" subfolder within the "xcsoardata" folder at the root of the main
storage area. That xcsoardata folder is also where you (or it) put your
map, waypoints, and configuration files.

You can use a "file manager" type app (a simple one comes with Android),
or the file selection browsing capability of a web browser app, to find
that folder and handle the log files. E.g., copy them to a flash memory
device, attach them to an email, copy them to cloud storage, whatever
suits you.

I am having the same issue. Previous versions have used the xcsoardata directory but the newest version does not seem to use that directory. Suggestions welcome.

Have you looked at the online manual? Its on their website:
https://www.xcsoar.org/

The manual for v7.27 seems quite clear about there data and log files are
stored: https://download.xcsoar.org/releases/7.27/XCSoar-manual.pdf

It's a newish Android policy that all apps should store data in a Android/data/ directory, for XCSoar that would be Android/data/org.xcsoar/files. AIUI there are no file manager apps that can directly access that folder on the device but if you plug it in to a computer & turn on file transfer you can access that folder with the computer's file manager.

Old XCSoar installations can still use the XCSoarData folder but new installations have to use the Android/data folder.

Thank you. It seems that with every new version, Android is becoming
more user-hostile, although it's still not quite as bad as iOS :-)

I wonder if this issue is related to one a friend told me about, where
he can edit tasks within the app and use them, but they are not
remembered between sessions. It is as if the writing of task files
fails - but with no error message.

I still run an old version of XCSoar on the right side of my Stemme as I
find its bread crumb trail to be much better than the one provided by my
ClearNav. I see no reason to upgrade my XCSoar version since it's not
used for much any more.

Regarding operating systems: A friend gave me a 21.5 inch iMac that his
wife no longer used and I promptly formatted and partitioned the hard
disk to run Linux. I did the same with my Windows laptop and I'm much
happier with this OS. When my wife's Windows 8.1 becomes no longer
usable, she'll also get the Linux treatment. She's a retired software
engineer so it'll be like coming home for her!

When I upgraded to Android 13 (or a recent security update), I had to switch file managers to be able to get to

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xcsoar/files/logs

The one I used to use no longer had permission to this path.

FV File Explorer (name in UI on phone, from FolderV, free version) takes on permissions from a specified app, specified each launch of the file manager. I imagine there are other file managers or soon will be others that do this move.

For an older Android OS phone, go to the "My Files" app. Look in "XCSoar Data", then (probably near the bottom) "Logs". This should give you a list of all the .igc flight traces. You can then click on the "..." to "select", and then "share" the file in whichever way you need to.
