Any user experience with the XCOM 760 radio ?

It has been 2 years since the last postings on RAS.
I am interested in the "Dual Channel Watch" .
I know the Becker AR6201 has it, but at significantly higher price.
I also know the latest Microair version has it, but I don't want to
start another discussion about Microair's reputation.
Any input (positive or negative) is appreciated.

free and performs very well. I have had bad experiences with Becker
and especially their repair service.

any Xcom radios will again have to be produced elsewhere, I assume again
from Australia.
I've sold Xcom along with all other popular small 57mm format radios and
generally the Xcom has been OK, but I have seen as many or more issues with
Xcom than most other 57mm format radios. I would rate them as good, not
however better than the others including Microair..Remember, Microair is not
the original Microair and is actually a very good radio today with their
latest revisions.I see really none of these new version with issues and only
hear typically complaints on the older units. All of the current 57mm
transceivers really are today good, choose features and your own
preferences.....

I use the XCOM 760 radio and have had only a few issues with it when
it was first produced in Australia. Since working out the problems I
had with the microphone the radio works well. The "Dual Watch"
function, I have found to be very useful during the landing phase as I
use it to listen for other radio traffic from the other gliders who
may not have switched frequencys. The memory functions are also very
useful for programming in ASOS or AWOS information. The radio also
allows you to program it through a PC for the memory channels. The
XCOM website has a lot of information about it. Wiring is critical, I
had some trouble with it to begin with. It has been working flawlessly
since.

In the past year I have installed a Microair and Flightline. Both
radios were purchased from Tim Mara and both are working flawlessly.
The Microair has a alphanumeric memory display which is very
convenient.

I have installed 3 Flightline FL-760's here and use one myself, they have
all been flawless! (and regardless of what someone said about current drain
this has been non-issue.it still very low..these draw far less current and
work at lower voltages than most of our previous glider radios....I believe
I have sold nearly 200 of these since they were introduced and I "know" of
only 3 complaints, at least 1 of these was for sure a user/installer error
since this radio that supposed to have had the issue is in my own glider now
! Never had a single problem with it and every time I have called someone on
it.they have answered!I also have installed here at least 3 Microair 760's,
all work just fine, all are older versions.I do have one other here that I
didn't do the install on, it works some of the time so-so.....on the bench
it tests fine so again, installation error, I just have not yet replaced the
wiring to know what was done incorrectly...surely the radio is OK, even
tried the radio in another glider I installed one like it in and there it
was again, OK....Installation errors are 90% or more of radio problems..

Best graduation present ever. They also knew me well so they got the
full kit with speaker, mic, and wiring harness. All I had to do was
plug it all in. Maybe one solder between the speaker and the wiring
harness. In other words not too much for me to screw up. It has
worked flawlessly even with my homemade ground plane antenna.

Manufacturers when they get a radio back regardless of if there is an actual
fault or simply an installation error and nothing wrong with the radio has
to tag it as "repaired", it can't go back out as new once it's been sold and
returned so this isnt' any indication of an actual fault. My calls to Edmo
(My distributor also, they are the brand name holders of Flightline
products) have always indicated they have sold a lot of these and had very
few actual problems. I know I don't get the complaints you are suggesting

Oh Boy! I would not talk about complaints. Its sort of like calling
the kettle black.
I also offer 7 days per week service, and a better value for customers
on all the equipment. Not the normal 9 to 5.
