Becker 4201 multiple failures

Can anyone recommend a repair facilities for a Becker AR4201
transceiver other than Becker Avionics in Mirimar FL? I don't trust
the places listed on the Becker Web Site because I tried Spirit
Avionics in Ohio, and they we're even allowed to open the unit.

I have a three year old Becker 4201 that failed Dec'03, and again July
'04. The Dec'03 repair took three (3) months, and they only
re-flashed the software (cost=$280). Same failure and I'm getting the
same run-around, no response to emails, or voice mails. When I reach
them, Sebastian says to call "next tuesday" every week. The radio
trasmits and receives carrier wave only, no voice. ie, just a 'click'
heard both ways. The glider wiring is supperb, so I'm lost as to the
cause of the multi failures.

Help is greatly appreciated,
Bruce

I know that you say that "the glider wiring is supperb", but I'll still bet
the microphone and/or wiring is bad. I learned the hard way. My experience
is that for every 1 problem with the radio, there are more than 25 problems
with the microphone and microphone wiring. Besides, when you say that all
they did is re-flash the software, I infer that they didn't find anything
wrong with the unit at all.

Before returning the radio again, I would check the resistance of the
microphone circuit at the pins just before they enter the radio. If you own
a glider that allows the panel to move out of the way as the canopy is
opened (like my ASW27) also check the resistance with the panel in all
positions. Again, I learned this the hard way.

Of course, if you have access to a similar radio, nothing beats checking
this by temporarily replacing the radio. I was able to isolate a microphone
problem with my old LS3-17 this way.

This is just my opinion, and is worth at least what it costs you :-))

I would walk through all the non-volatile memory settings in service
mode as described on pages 3-11 through 3-18 in the manual and check
for correct values as stated in the manual.

If you don't have the manual, let me know I can send you a soft copy.
