Finally, we have secured the Swift S-1 for the US Team. The glider will be available for training to all serious pilots interested in Competition Aerobatics or joining the US Team.

At this time there is no special level of aerobatic proficiency required to get a share. However, each pilot must demonstrate a satisfactory ability to perform aerobatics in a safe manner! A basic training program is currently available at Seminole Lake Gliderport with Sasha Marvin (me). Upon the arrival of the Swift, an extended training program will be available to prepare pilots to compete using the Swift at events such as the National’s and World’s. Additionally, in the near future an MDM-FOX will be available for transitional training. If our Florida location is not convenient for you, MDM-FOX training is offered in Arizona at Estrella and in California at Williams Soaring.

The Swift S-1 is not absolutely necessary in order to be competitive in the Unlimited and Advanced classes. However, at a competition as fiercely aggressive as the World’s, the Swift offers a distinct advantage over other gliders, such as the SZD-59 and the MDM-FOX. Therefore, if you desire to have the best performance, you must fly in the best equipment available. The best ship at this time is undoubtedly the Swift S-1!!

Our program’s objective is to have US pilots place in the top 5 at the World’s within the next two years. If you are adventurous and competitive enough to join us in our efforts to dominate at the World’s, contact me as soon as possible for more information!!

Interesting.
I am the current United States Glider Aerobatic Champion in the Advanced Class.
The number two Advanced pilot and I are based at Williams.
Since you procurred the Swift for the U.S. Team...can you kindly ship the plane to our training camp at Williams?
We plan to compete at the Worlds in Poland in July.
We would appreciate having the plane as soon as possible so we can practice.

Hey Guy, I think there's a misunderstanding here. I have no idea what made you write the comment that way. Looks like you took it as a threat or a bad joke, but it is not.

Let me tell you something... just little of the WGAC WAGAC

Me, Eric (who is the US Unlimited Champion, and based in Wililams, too) and Jason Stevens met in Torun at the WGAC WAGAC in 2014 for the first time. Jason flew the solo fox of Jurek Makula, and the Poland team, and Eric was flying the Swift prototype. Not really the very best Swift.

So, I helped Eric to find a Swift to train for the 2015 and 2016 WGAC. He came to Italy to train with our Swift. Somebody wasn't happy to have a foreigner to train with the team for not disclosing "secrets" that everybody know, and I fought to let them understand that having other cultures training/comparing with us was enriching our experience and knowledge. Pietro, our team manager, agreed to have Eric fly with us.

Eric did great at the Worlds after that, but I can't tell if was because he trained with us or just because he was unleashing his skills on our Swift. What is important is that one of "us" did good. And Eric, nationality or not, is one of us.

I went to France for their Nationals in 2011 and we're still very good friends, I love them and there is great respect every time we met at the worlds, despite their stinky cheese at the French event. There are things that you can't forget, and being welcome in a new country when you don't have a lot of friends, means a lot. They treat me like a son, I will always have them in my heart.

In 2011 in Torun at the WAGAC, me and Luca were without a glider for the first 10 days of training there, due to some funny problems. Makula made us fly on the Polish swift for the whole training days. We will never forget that too! In 2012 we won the championship in Slovakia. 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th place. With a Swift. Our Swift.

In 2015 Kasha Smudiska (the Polish girl) was 1st absolute. At the last flight they had a problem with the Swift on the rudders. We offered our Swift in case she was unable to fly with their one. So they were able to repair it with less pressures.

The Glider Aerobatics Community is a family where everybody help each other.

If am not wrong the Swedish guys (Pekka and those two evil ;) guys, Sebastian and Gustav) came to train to the US last year, and Sebastian won the 2016 WAGAC in Hungary.

These are just some little stories out of many more.

I totally believe that what make us Champions is the will to give and share with others. Then who does best is the winner of the contest, but does this make him the very best pilot ever?

All of us at the top level are all great pilots, and believe me, there are pilots who remains in the heart of people forever, and not based on the rankings.

As soon as I knew there was a Swift for sale in the US, I start working hard to keep it here in the US and make it available to all those seriously involved in the competition Glider Aerobatics. The thing I am most devoted to. So I found some beautiful people willing to help and to share the new adventure with me. And we are still looking for others to come in!

So if you want to be part of this beautiful project and new challenge, and share the same passion as we all here do, you're welcome.

Thank you for the background story.
Your Swift was Klein Gilhousen's.
Thank you for keeping it in the U.S.

Hey Guy, yes it is the Klein Gilhousen Swift and we would like to keep it in his memory. I can't think of the Swift as mine, though, I am one who took care in finding funds and partners. The project is developed to have a ship that the US based pilots can have available to train for the Nationals/Worlds. I have a share.

Interesting thread. As one unfamiliar with the glider aerobatics movement in the US, can someone brief us on how to find out more information? It doesn't appear that the US SSA has an affiliate related to aerobatics. I found the world's aerobatic website for past and upcoming international competitions, but nothing so far about US competition sites.
Thanks for any info.

All aerobatics in the United States is overseen by the International Aerobatics Club (IAC). Glider aerobatic competitions are done with the power pilots. You can go to the IAC website and look at the past United States National Aerobatic Championships for information and photos.
