I've discovered a number of scale models are available of DG and ASW
gliders. These are typically 2-4 meters in size, and are designed to be
radio controlled. Couple of example urls are
http://www.unbeatenpath.com/dg200-17.htm and
http://www.jonction.net/~icare/liste.htm

Been thinking that one of these would be great to hang from my office
ceiling, and have two questions:

1. Are they really to scale?

2. Anyone have one they want to sell?

If they were really to scale they would be nasty to fly. You need to have
a longer wing chord on a scaled model in order to compensate for the
difference in Reynolds number.

I fly RC sailplanes, but scale designs (yet...). I would suggest that
you speak with the folks who sell them for accurate information. It
is my understanding that there are kits that are "sort-of-scale", and
others, which are "exact" (?). If you look at some of the r/c
sailplane mags, you will see stunning examples, sometimes detailed
down to the tiniest element.

It is worth noting that some folks are flying HALF-SCALE aircraft
(nutty IMHO).

If you're looking for something for your office, take a look at
http://www.esn.net/kleber/

I hear that these models are absolutely excellent in scale and realism--you
can even get the cockpit exactly like your real glider. I'm about to order
one as a present to myself; I have a Libelle 201B. They're smaller than
the R/C models; but, I've decided to go with one of these.

Good luck,

I have 2 of these models myself, one of my Glasflugel Hornet C and another
of my new Glasflugel 304CZ...
These models are built by the same company (different people) that build the
Glasflugel 304CZ sailplane.
Their workmanship is truly outstanding and the detail of the models is
fantastic. They are not cheap but they are made totally from composite
materials and from precise molds. If you really want to display a replica of
your own sailplane you send them photos of each angle and EVEN the cockpit
details as the controls, microphones, instruments ect will all be in place
just like your original photos...

I can't imagine you launching this baby with a hi-start. How do you you
get it in the air?

There are more R/C Scale glider models out there than you can count. Pick up a
copy of the mag Sailplane and Electric Modeler (www.sailplanemodeler.com) or
send a message to the main R/C soaring bulletin board (soa...@airage.com) and
you should get a response/learn more.

Note the higher aspect ratio gliders fly best/great at 1/4+ scale. I've seen a
scale ASH-25 fly with no problems.
