I currently do not have access to net-news, but get the emailed list just
fine. I used to get net-news and read rec.aviation.* but I prefer the
mail-list format, you get the whole thing at once and read it at your
leisure.

Most of the points Mahboud makes about the advantages of net-news are
argueable. I dont know why he has such a thing about it.

If there is a way to make the email-list posting available to net-news
readers fine, I have no objection to that, but please do not stop this
email-list.

It's really a matter of preference. I prefer going down to the newstand
to get a newspaper, rather than having many letters coming to my mailbox,
one that contains weather info, one that contains current-affairs, one for
politics, one for local news, and a separate one for ads.

I follow about a dozen newsgroups. About 6 are are work related. The
rest are personal. That's why I would like to be able to have all this
info in one place and use my e-mail account just for private messages.
For example, I follow rec.models.rc also. That group generates more than
50 articles a day - I am sure glad that's not a mailing list. Also the
first 80 characters of each of my e-mail letters, when I am away, is sent
to my pager, and I really don't want to be paged because of the mailing
list.

Note that people on this list have been complaining about the number of
postings, and they are advocating splitting the mailing list. And this is
only based on an average digest size of 15-20 articles each. If you check
in the newsgroups, you'll see that people put up with far greater numbers
of postings, mainly because the format and presentation is more user
friendly. Of course, that depends on your newsreader software too. I
read news on Macintosh with NewsWatcher (available free from
ftp://ftp.acns.nwu.edu/pub/newswatcher). (I am currently reading your
message with that newsreader. I can select the ftp string above and by
clicking on it with my mouse, I can have that file downloaded. The same
applies to any hang-gliding gif files that appear in the form of a URL).

Anyway, I am happy with the way things are now. The mailing list is
mirrored to the newgroup, and I read the newsgroup.
