Potential Treasure Trove of Vintage Slingsby Sailplanes

local aerodrome. The operator on the field is Bangalore Aerosports. It's
a shoestring operation - there's very little demand for recreational flying
in India. But, what did I spy in the hangar but a bunch of old Slingsby
gliders in "mothballs"? According to the operator (Wing Cmdr Ashok Mehta,
IAF Ret.), the entire fleet of Slingsbys was grounded in Inda when a T-21
shed a wing during some excessive aerobatics. There are at least 3 T-21s
and 3 TG-3s counting the days til they get torched.
So, is anyone out there interested in potentially getting their hands on
these? Be forewarned, this is just a tentative "feasibility study." The
gliders are owned by the Indian National Cadet Corps arm of the AF, and the
Indian bureaucracy makes my State Division of Motor Vehicles look like a
model of efficiency. I'd say it's probably a 1 in 50 chance at best that
these could ever make it out of India, but I offerred to put a posting up
to guage the response.
All I'm offerring to do is to help the right people get in touch with Ashok
if interested. My gut says that this may not be economically feasible
when all is said and done, but you never know...

I have been aware of the 'fleet' of T21's etc. you refer to for over a year and
ALL my efforts at securing have thus far failed :-( I have secured 'ownership'
of one T21 via a VERY influential member of the 'establishment' in India but the
bureaucracy is such that it is highly unlikely that ANY of the gliders mentioned
will EVER leave the country...
Wish I could offer more positive input but lets all keep our fingers crossed!
