As I had mentioned earlier about installing a cnav 50 ( thanks for the
info on the scale issues )it says to use shielded cables to reduce
radio interference.
Is this quite important and should all my wiring be done using this
type of cable , ie. straight from the battery forword ?

Having been trying to track down why the radio interferes with my CNAV
for over 3 years. I would say if you have the option use sheilded
cables for nearly everything. I haven't resorted to this yet. Although
all my CNAV Cables are Sheilded and it runs on a separate battery from
the Radio. I suspect I may have poor connection on my Radio Antenna
that is causing the interference but I haven't been able to verify
this. Sometimes it works just fine and I move something (I don't know
what) and I pegs the vario every time I key the mike. I go open up the
panel rearrange the wireing slightly and it will occasionaly work just
fine.

The CNav seems to be particularly susceptable to interference. My
Borgelt Vario doesn't move a bit when I Key the Mike.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Brian

If your CNAV is sensitive to outside interference, filter the
wiring going into the device.

coil
device (battery) > ______/\/\/\/\/\/\________>..CNAV
| |
= = .001ufd
<ground ________|__________ |

The coil is 6 to 10 turns of #22 gauge wire wound on pencil and the
cap is a disk ceramic or almost any other small capacitor. Put this on
all the wires in the wiring harness as close to the instrument as possible

and possibly into the harness connector that fits into the CNAV.
Make sure your ground connections are clean as in not corroded and
put white grease on bolted connections to ground. This will keep out
air and corrosion.
You might get away with a simple capacitor to ground.

The fact that you have to do this means the designers of the device
did not live in the real world and left you to prevent the ambient crap
from getting in.

Actually he cnav works fine it is the possibility of radio
interference that I might be concerned about .
