Anyone seen this or tried this stuff? Reads and sounds pretty attractive?

This is probably ceramic coating.

Ok, and ceramic implies what to gelcoat? Sorry I don't grasp the significance! :)

Is that ceramic also?

Product description
The incredible 70% SiO2 with 99.9% purity formula is based on the same technology as the original Cquartz with some interesting tweaks. Other ceramic coatings have far less SiO2 (Quartz) in the product however CQUK has 70% SiO2 with 99.9% purity. This is the first ever coating which has this concentration! The pure quality ensures the most transparent glass coat film over the surface, which guarantees long lasting coating with extreme strength and water-repellency. Once the liquid meets the open air it cures and forms a ceramic quartz hard coating on the surface with extreme hydrophobicity and gloss beyond even that of CQuartz. Why SiO2? SiO2 is one of the hardest material in the world. It creates a very clear but still long lasting hard coating on automotive surfaces. Please go to the videos tab on this page and take a look at the videos taken by some of our associates. Ease of Application Video CQuartz UK Clarity and Purity proof Video Scratch Test and Gloss Proof Video Kit Includes: (1) 50ml bottle of CQuartz UK Edition (Approximately 4-7 average size vehicles) (1) CarPro Foam Applicator Block (4) 4" MF Suede applicators

That is Silicon Dioxide, so I don't think this should go on gelcoat.

I thought silicon dioxide was sand. Maybe in another form, like carbon
and diamonds?

You're right. Quartz crystals are the most common naturally transparent
form.

From the description, I'm thinking it also cures cancer and erectile disfunction.

You might find in the right dosage it does actually cure stupidity :)

We've completely glossed over the Fish Guts issue.

If it works on fish/spouse guts, it will likely work on bugs as well.

If you fly wave, minimize thermal shock. Level out every 5k' or so for a few (10) minutes, then continue down.

Keep it clean and wax with a UV resistant product like Wx Block/Seal.

Keep it in a dry temperature controlled hangar or trailer with solar venting.

Perhaps it does, after considerable effort and/or expense to do it correctly to their standards. Then enjoy only a couple years protection for the effort? Though upkeep is simpler. I can imagine this for a NEW glider out of the container would be less trouble. The prep seems an unholy pain though.

"it is imperative the surface is Completely clean and free of debris, polishing residues, waxes or other sealants. Also as a detailer the cost of applying cquartz [as an example of the product type] comes from the work to get the paint or gelcoat prepared; hours of cleaning, wet sanding and polishing requiring many other products tools and skills. Remember after its on there you can no longer remove swirl marks scratches or other defects in the paint as the cquartz actually forms a hard shell.”

Is there anyway to touch up problem areas like behind the canopy. I have some lines of crazing in that area and along the tail boom.

All we need is someone to be the guinea pig and try it! If I had old aircraft part with gelcoat to serve as a testbed, I would try it. Because it sure seems like something like this could be a godsend for those with gelcoat cracking.

Here is another similar less expensive product. It seems there are quite a few nano-coatings out there to consider.

I would not jump on any nano-coating. Ceramic coatings are used on RVs with good results. It is a lot of work to apply but it will last years. There are only a few of these products available with good reputation, some only available to dealers. Talk to RVers who had their riggs protected with ceramic coating and make up your own mind.
I am lucky to have urethane paint on my glider, but I have other toys I bought the ceramic coating for. I will report back in a year.
