Hello,
I have bought FS2002 and... I'm disappointed.. I mean, is that how REAL
planes are acting??
I have tried, for example, F4U and....I'm yanking the stick all around and
he is flying smoothly and nicely jumping from one side of the wing to
another... for god sake...

In Warbirds you would fall in spin long time ago...

So, is FS2002 flight model really real?

The flight models are not too bad, but is an F4U part of the default FS2002?
I would have thought that the 'model' was more to do with the aircraft than
the sim?

well yes, it is a default part (plane) of the game...

Well no, it is not. Here are the planes in FS Standard 2002 (from the
Microsoft web site):

New Aircraft In FS 2002 Edition
a.. Cessna 208 Caravan on Amphibious Floats
b.. Boeing 747-400
c.. Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP
Favorites from Previous Versions
a.. Boeing 777-300
b.. Boeing 737-400
c.. Cessna 182S Skylane
d.. Bell 206B JetRanger III helicopter
e.. Learjet 45 business jet
f.. Cessna Skylane RG
g.. Extra 300S-Patty Wagstaff's aerobatic airplane
h.. Sopwith Camel
i.. Schweizer 2-32 sailplane
FS Professional 2002 adds to that:

New Aircraft In FS 2002 Professional Edition
a.. Cessna 208 Grand Caravan
b.. Raytheon BE58 Baron
Favorites from Previous Versions
a.. Raytheon/Beech King Air 350
b.. Mooney Bravo
You'll notice that nowhere in there is the F4U

My FS2k2 Pro has a Corsair in it. I did not add it, it was there after the
initial install.

Thought I'd throw that out.

well thank you on that reply...:-) so I don't have to explain...
BUT...
nobody answered me...
I'm not a REAL pilot so I don't know how real plane is acting... but I think
that FS2002 is not SO real as they are bragging....

Well, okay, it is all in your perception. Admittedly, many of FS2k2's
flight models feel "canned". I'm not a real pilot (hopeful) but I can say
that several of the default plane's feel like they are on rails. To me at
least. Real? I have no idea. Do the plane fly mostly on the numbers?
Yes. Does FS2k2 give a good sense of movement though the air?
Occasionally. There are many add-on aircraft that do "feel" right however.
FS2k2 has attributes that the other sims don't, and vice versa. FS2k2 has
managed to create a pretty decent "being there" feeling, on par with, or
better then the Flight Unlimited series (I still love FU2/3). AI traffic,
with ATC, nice looking scenery, believable terrain and weather, FS2k2 is "as
real as it gets" right now. At least for the home computer. ;-)

These are just my opinions. I simulate in all the major sims. Fly!II,
FS2k2, FU2/3, ProPilot 99, X-Plane.

well, probably true, but I'm kind of an action flyer.. do not get me wrong,
an action flyer in a way that I do not want to fly form point A to point B
and not doing some crazy stuff.... I have been raised on warbirds and that
flight models seems pretty realistic..
So I bought FS2002 hoping to learn some real flying stuff... well it seems
that I will (navigating and stuff), but I miss flying....

If you want "procedural" flying, try Fly!2k or Fly!II. Flight models feel
better (to me) and you spend lots of time flipping switches, turning knobs,
adjusting things, looking around, etc. I use Fly!II when I want to learn
how to fly "by-the-book". You can do that somewhat in FS2k2 as well, but
something about the hyper accurate panels in Fly!II just pulls me in...;-)

Start looking for FS2k2 add-ons. There are hundreds of fighters, warbirds,
float planes, helicopters, sail-planes etc. So you should be able to get
your "drilling holes in the sky" fix. ;-)

Try these sites

www.fsplanet.com

just to get started.

It's possible, even likely, the Corsair (and other planes) were left over
from a previous installation, or came with MS Combat Flight Simulator (for
example).

None of that changes the fact that neither the Corsair and the F4U are part
of MSFS.

Hi,

The F4U Corsair is included with FS2002 Pro, it's just not listed anywhere.

If you change your realism settings, it's very easy to "over" control the
plane and send it out of control.

Does it fly like the real aircraft. I don't know. And I don't expect it to
be more then 70-80% right.

Okay, sorry to Genie and Dondo for the misinformation from me. I was silly
enough to trust the docs, and never even bothered to scroll all the way to
the bottom of the list of aircraft. Sure enough, the Corsair is right there
at the very end.

Sorry about that.

As for whether the flight model is accurate, I dunno. Few enough pilots
have first-hand experience with one though, that I'd be surprised if it were
entirely accurate. :)

do...=8-)

There are a lot of us real pilots using FS2002 and it is true that it is
nothing like a 'warbirds' type of sim and is not intended to be. The bulk of
the players of FS seem to be studious folk who would have liked to have been
747 Captains. Many people use it purely for the systems and procedures. It
is not meant to be an adventure. However, I believe that the GA Aircraft in
thFS2002 are very good as far as their flying characteristics go, and the
scenery has just got better and better. One does not have to be a fan of W
Gates to admit that the FS series has been one of the great successes of
Microsoft.
I find that it has now become a model 'World' and I enjoy slewing about and
looking at parts of the planet which I have visited, almost as if it is a
geography CD. VFR flying to just look at the scenery, is now very satisfying
compared with the extremely sparse world of FS 4 five or six years ago. If
it's military excitement and spills that you prefer (and why not?) then I
shd think that there are better sims. FS 2002 is probably designed for guys
who can't afford their own Cessna to potter about in!
