The issued ridge and thermal soaring situations all fly in the FS4 world
(SAIL.SCN) supplied with FS5.0. This world also contains the 'Buzz the
Nimitz' situation. There are no airports indexed in this world, so it's
effectively hidden apart from an entry on the scenery library index.
The same applies to the crop-dusting world (is this where the other
entertainment stuff is too?).
The implications of this are:
- It explains why the Nimmitz is only visible from the soaring ridge and
its own 'buzz' situation.
- This is why the peninsular north of the Golden Gate appears quite
different when you fly there from SF International as opposed to getting
there via one of the saved gliding situations.
- Thermals and ridge soaring are only available in the FS4 world so far as
I know, and only North of SF at that.
- As there are no indexed airports in this world the FS5 manual's
instructions for going soaring at Wenawatchee 'east of the Cascades from
Seattle' are quite bogus. Similarly, the MS(UK) help desk's remark that
'you can soar anyplace', like Augsburg or Fussen, appears to be moonshine.
Questions for all you riders of the purple net:
1 Has anyone decoded the soaring stuff for FS4? I donn't really want to
download and GREP/scroll through the 10s of KB of decoded info on
ftp.iup.edu if somebody can give me a pointer.
2 Can FS4 Scenery Designer set up soaring stuff?
3 Will FS5 scenery designer handle soaring stuff when it is released?
4 Can anybody disprove my assumption that you can only soar in the FS4
world north of SF?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
