Hi.

I am interested in buying a simulator for flying a helicopter. Can
anyone recommend software as well as the necessary controls? I'd love to
learn to fly a Helicopter, and I thought this may be a good place to get my
feet wet so to speak. I have a PC.

Thanks!

Hi,

This is the place to ask. They are included in some general aviation
simulation programs that you can find at local or on-line software
stores for about $50 US. My guess is that you might need a special
input device/controller (somewhere around $100+, I guess) if you want
to simulate that part. You might provide more details, including the
amount you want to pay and whether you are interested in scenery or
just aircraft coordination. Others know more about the subject.

I have built a set of Heli controls for use with any flightsim. Free plans
are available on the net. Goto: www.avsim.com and see my helicopter controls
under the partner site.

Thom,

You might have a look at these two URLs

http://www.chariot.net.au/~pwinwood/
Dedicated to teaching you to fly the FS Helicopter using a somewhat
realistic approach.

http://www.foxriverva.org/
Primarily a helicopter VA but does some fixed-wing 'bush' flying using
STOLs

Both these organizations have a significant number of real pilots, both
Fixed and Rotary Wing.

Simulation can only give you a faint taste of helicopter flying but
there are a number of things you can learn if you approach it
realistically.  The two organizations mentioned above do just that.

Cheers,
Cal

Thom, being as you are new, you may not know the acronyms yet. A 'VA' is a
Virtual Airline'.
