Two main observations from this experience: One, the R44 was better than I
expected. I have received several responses to my post regarding the R44
vs. 206 but had not had a chance to experience it myself. Reasonable power,
good tail rotor authority, good speed. We did some hover work, hovering
auto, climb, cruise, OGE hover and a regular auto. Great fun, no, it was
the most fun I've had in a long time. Airplanes are abnormal, this felt
right!
Which brings me to my second observation - It only took about 60-90 seconds
to relax, get my focus in the distance and stabilize the hover. I did over
control a bit at first but it came back pretty quick. I can't wait for the
next chance to fly.
