If so, was jacking the plane necessary? Any other hints?
TIA

I replaced both rear spar attach fittings on my Cherokee 140 back in
1996. I did use jacks and a tail stand, but just to keep the plane
stable when you crawl around in the back of the plane.
This job was a pain due to the location of the fittings. Let me know
if you run into any snags...I may have encountered the same problem.
Make sure to remove the insulation from that area. The insulation
tends to retain water from leaking rear windows.

Most people don't find any corrosion, but if you do, the main spar must be
treated (don't know the limits off the top of my head) and any corrosion
other than light surface on the rear spar attach fitting requires an R&R,
which is a bit involved, especially on Cherokees with rear cargo space.
Call your local aircraft parts dealer for a copy.

I have both mentioned service bulletins (977 and 1006). If you want,
I will mail you a copy...or I could scan them and email them to ya.
Your call.
1006 is no big deal...unless you find a lot of corrosion. You will
probably want to replace the flex fuel hoses attached to the fuel
tanks. So when you have the tanks out for hose replacement, have a
look at the spar. Chances are good that you will find nothing out of
the ordinary.
