I bought some great plastic reading lenses at the drug store that stuck on my sunglasses. I lost them
and went back for replacements and was told that they can't get them any more. Does anyone know if they
are still available and where to get them?

I saw them a while ago in a pilot catalog, but haven't seen them since.
I want to get some too.

Sporty's.

I was gonna get me some of those (1.25's). However, I asked my plane
partner, who is an optometrist, what he thought of them and he said, "Not
much."

He bought some a few years back. Said they were made of the same stuff as
the window thing you usually see on the back of a motor home. He said it
made the sectional really fuzzy and wasn't worth it. Got him some
prescription sunglasses instead.

So, have these stick-on things improved or is his description pretty
accurate?

A while back there was a post about them that gave a glowing report.
Right now, I use a small pair of cheap 1.25's on the end of my nose
while my sunglasses are where they should be. It works, but it pinches
my nose and restricts my breathing. I haven't seen them in Sporty's
catalog recently. Do they still carry them?

The inventor, Peter LeHay, was killed in his Westwind last year. Maybe
that's why.

Thank you very much for your reply, I just found the missing lens on the floor of the kitchen. The drug store said
they have had a rash of inquiries, due I presume to this humid weather making them fall off. I'm glad to know where
to get them though.

If you haven't seen my Avweb articles about lift and stall, you might enjoy clicking on the link in the signature file below
and following the links to them. I swear, these are just the facts as aerodynmics experts understand them, absolutly
nothing new or made up but some people get really hot under the collar at having the myths questioned, especially
since they made their way onto the FAA PP exams:)

Mine have a small ripple in them. I've used them reading outside in the sun and it's distracting. You wouldn't
want to use them as regular glasses. However, for a quick look at the chart and to make the panel a bit clearer,
it sure beats switching glasses. I would need bifocal prescription sunglasses as my distant vision does not need
correction.

Apart from the cost, this is not a problem. You will end up with a
good pair of sunglasses with UV coating, and if you go for the
"gradual" bifocal, you will have reading glass below and plain glass
above and no line between the two.

You might want to consider getting them in regular (uncolored) glass
and using flip-up sunglasses over them. I don't like the effect of
wearing sunglasses all the time. (In fact, I don't wear them at all
except at sea. When flying I just pull my bill-cap down over my eyes.)
If your flying glasses aren't artificially darkened, you may find them
just the thing for driving, and they'll be useful night as well as
day.

all the best - Dan

When I wore contacts I used the stick-on reading things on my sunglasses. I
thought they worked great, certainly better than bifocal contacts, which I
tried for awhile (they have a serious glare problem at night). When I
switched over to glasses, though, I simply got a pair of bifocals. I can't
tell any real performance difference between bifocal glasses and the
stick-on things.
