Does anyone have more info on this? I read an article that James Gleick
(famous writer and founder of NYC's Pipeline ISP) crashed his LongEZ in
New Jersey and killed his 8-year-old son. He was in intensive care, it
said. I have had professional contact with this guy, and am wondering how
he is doing.

When and where did this occur? Where is he based?

The followup article indicated he remains hospitalized, but is expected to
recover.

The local news coverage was generally positive, stressing the rare incidence of
crashes, and Mr Gleick's expertise as a pilot. The local police chief described
Greenwood Lake Airport as a good neighbor, and a safe place.

Anyone else besides me surprised that the media hasn't connected the
fact that Denver and Gleick were both flying the same type of plane?
It's bad enough they can't get anything right, they can't even get
something wrong correctly...

About half of the stories I heard in the media shortly after Gleick's

none of the reports speculated as to a common cause.

I went to Greenwood lake, NJ recently. Nice airport, long runway
surrounded by hills. One thing unusual about that airport is the VASI
slope is very steep. They're 5.30 degrees on runway 24 and 6.25
degrees on 6. They're necessary to clear the obstruction. I was
surprised how steep my approach was in order to stay above the VASI
slope. Most VASI slope is about 3 degrees.

Mac Dan Aviation, a FBO at CDW, doesn't even allow its rental plane to
go to Greenwood lake. Don't know why the airport gets such a treatment.
