The head of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum
was killed Tuesday, July 13, when the motorized glider in
which he was a passenger broke apart and crashed near
Minden, Nevada.

Donald Engen, Director of the museum since 1996, died in the
accident along with the pilot William Ivans. Engen, 75, had
been administrator of the FAA in the mid-80s and served on
the National Transportation Safety Board.
