How does one become an A&P?
Is there an online practice test test site?
What kind of wages do new A&P's make?

You can make more working on cars, even old A&P's
don't do that well.

2 ways- Go to an approved A&P school for 18 months, or
work under the supervision of an A&P full time (40hrs/week)
for 30 months. Then you take 3 written exams and pass an
oral and practical exam. Then you start working at around
$18/hour.

With this in mind, does anyone know of a "prep" course for those who are
doing an internship? The husband is an apprentice, and is almost ready to
take the writtens, oral and practical. Is there an place were he can go
for a week or so for a practical test "prep". (No, I am not trying to get
rid of him for a week!)

Check out 'Trade-a-Plane'. They always have a bunch of
ads for test prep.

OK that was $18/hr working for who??
GA or the airlines?
I never see any adds for A&P's in our local paper.
-thanks
By the way there is a State program here for 18 months $3500 estimated they
said, I just don't know if it is worth it to get into that line of work.

Man, who's paying that kind of dough to start with no experience?
Most experienced IA's don't get that kine of bread.

You sound like an A&P ad agency.

I recommend Baker's School of Aeronautics in Nashville TN. I used them to
prep for my writtens and practical a few years back, and I was very happy
with their operation.

The program here is $15,000 for 18 months and you have to buy your own
tools (typical of A&P schools). I was so glad when my husband got this
apprenticeship. Gives me more money to spend on flying!

That was the original question, how much do they make? I suppose I could call
the local airlines but I wonder if they would give me a straight answer. A pay
cut would mean less money for flying, not to mention the house note

Depends on where your local paper is based. A&Ps are in demand, but not in
every little shade-tree hangar. Again, check-out the classifieds in
Trade-a-Plane or go to websites and job-fairs sponsored by AirInc., AEPS,
UPAS, et al.

The real spending money doesn't go to the mechanics. If you can stand to be
married to an airline pilot, get him working as a mechanic and then start
him on flying lessons. My wife hates my job, but she can sure spend the
money!

the only thing an A&P license is good for is working your way into another job
like a pilot or eng, the pay stinks, the politics stink, and the hours suck,
when i started out in 1984 i was making 12 an hour, after 7 years i was making
17, then the company went belly up and the new owners offerd 14, if you ever
want to make a decent living youll never do it being a mech, i clean swimming
pools now, make twice the money and work half the hours and i dont spend my
life under the aft lavs of a 747, its an interesting job when your young but
its no way to earn a decent living

The airline I fly for pays $18/hr to start. The only experience these
new-hires have with Boeings is the initial familiarization course given by
the airline.
