What will happen the the First Warplanes museum, The FIRST organization, or the biannula shows such
as Aerodrome 92 and 94...........
A very sad state of affairs.

To my knowledge, Frank Ryder, his wife, and one of their son's died in a
plane crash just prior to Christmas. It is my understanding that they
were returning home to Alabama from a trip to the Mayo clinic where
Frank's son had been successfully treated for some sort of cancer.
As for the World War I fighter museum that Frank worked so hard to
build, the last I heard, donations and contributions were being accepted
on behalf of the preservation of Frank's museum. I have not yet
heard if plans are being made for the next Aerodome Airshow. Frank
was THE driving force behind Aerodome. At the present time, it's
difficult to imagine Aerodome without Frank. More information can
certainly be obtained by contacting the FBO at the Guntersville, AL
airport.
Regarding the accident, all I know thus far is that Frank was PIC of his
Piper Malibu and had just taken off from an airport in Wisconsin. The
plane went down within a minute or so after takeoff. Conditions were
reportedly IMC at the time.
If anyone else has any additional information, I'd be interested in
hearing what has transpired.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a member of "the FIRST Warplanes" group that
was started as an off shoot of the museum. I should be hearing some
thing soon from Joe Gertler at the museum complex.
I had heard that some people in the local area were going to visit the
museum a few days after Christmas and a large funeral type memorial
wreath was on the doors, and the museum closed.

I happened to be driving into Minneapolis from Colorado with my wife
the evening of the crash. Ironically, I had just been telling her that
I was looking forward to going down to Guentherville this summer for the
first time.
The first news report that I picked up on radio was of a plane crash
about 17:00 just outside of Rochester, MN.
As details came in, it was announced that a Piper Malibu had crashed
shortly after take-off killing the pilot-Frank Ryder, his wife and
his son who had been at the Mayo Clinic for cancer treatment.
Needless to say I was totally stunned and saddened when I read in the
newspaper the next day that this was indeed the Frank Ryder of Alabama.
Since then, I have not heard nor read any more about the incident
though I suspect that info will be forthcoming as the later issues of
Sport Pilot are published since I think Norm Goyer was pretty close to
the Ryders.
