Interior Painting

I will be painting all of the plastic panels and trim parts on the interior of
my Piper Warrior soon and need your help. How do you clean and prepare the
parts and what type of paint would you recommend? I would also like to replace
the carpet. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to do as much of this
work myself if possible. TIA

For low wear items you can usually scrub down with a mild bleach solution,
then neutralize with plenty of water. Detergent is also okay, but not soap.
Paint can be something as simple as Krylon -- multiple thin coats, let dry for
several days before reinstallation.
High wear areas -- a hobby store or very good auto place can help here. There
are special primers and epoxy paints specially made for plastics. Also, if it
flexes a lot, then a "plasticizer" may be necessary.
One last word -- I have had excellent results with both Krylon and Rustoleum,
but *DO NOT* mix the two. They are incompatible with each other.

We redid the interior of our plane. We used white Krylon but off
white would have been better-white does show the dirt.
Also, a good sized auto parts store sells vinyl paint in case you want
to paint the seats. They also sell fabric paint in case you want to
paint the cloth seats. Results were wonderful, considering the price.
If the carpet is really raggy, Airtex sells them for a reasonable
price.
Good luck-I was in your position only a month or so ago, and was
pleased with the results, very much so!

As for interior plastic parts: I suggest going to a automotive paint supplier
in your area. Dupont for example, sells a complete line of custom mix interior
dyes for plastic parts. I used this product in a C172 and redid the ineterior
plastic in grey (to get rid of that horrible tan color) the only draw back is
that you need a compressor and spray gun. As for prepp work there is complete
information available from Dupont but I just degreased all the parts with
enamel reducer and then painted them.
As for carpets, call Airtex they sell approved (For fire resistance) carpet
sets ready for installation.

I repainted the dash panels in a Cessna 150 I used to own. I used paint
thinner (mineral spirits) to clean the plastic, and used Krylon spray
paint on a sunny day with temperature in the low 80s. Results were
excellent and still looked it five years later.

Thanks for your helpfull responses. I will also need to order placards for the
panel parts to be painted and have seen many ads. Which ones have you all had
good luck with and which ones would you stay away from? TIA
I will let you know what I used and the results after completing the work.
