I have a 1958 C-182 that I would like to convert to conventional gear.
Does anyone have an STC or STA for this change? Please e-mail me at
<xdn...@ssimicro.com>

Thanks

You might want to see if you can find someone that has a similar
valued Cessna 180 and trade. It will probably save you some money,
time and effort. A 180 will be a better choice if wanted to put
floats on it later. I doubt if you can get float kits for 182s, but
the chances of finding a factory float kit equiped 180 is pretty good.
I'd figure out how much a conversion would cost and then be prepared
to spend that much on a swap.

hiya rhea. Actually, I think I've seen a C182 on floats.

The outfit that has STC's for 150's and 172's is Texas Taildraggers and
they advertise occasionally--don't have an address handy. Don't know if
they have an STC for the 182. While floats might be desired, that wasn't
in the original post. That vintage 182 shouldn't have any airframe
differences from the 180 other than location of the gearboxes and
reinforcing for the 3rd wheel.

Cessna never certified any of the 182s on floats. However...

1) There is a guy working in the Wash DC area who takes a squaretail
182, installs the gear boxes and gear for a 180, adds the tailwheel, and
then gets the local FSDO to re-issue an airworthiness cert. as a C-180.
Then he floats the bird using the 180's STC. See "Charlie", a blue
182/180 on EDO 2700 at GAI for details. He spoke to me of this a couple
of years ago at Speculator.

2) There is a Canadian STC for the "omnivision" 182s by a firm in
Ottawa. I would contact the Canadian MOT for a pointer. They advertise
in "Water Flying" as well. Talk to your FSDO about bringing such a
conversion into the states.

3) In as much as the Squaretail 180/182's are the same airframe, with
only the gear location changed...your local FSDO shouldn't have too much
trouble doing a one time field approval for those birds.

I think TT has gone belly-up. The two conversion companies advertising in
recent TAPs are Bush and ACT. Neither advertises STCs for the 182. Bush's
phone is 800-752-0748. ACT's is 916-333-4807.
