What's the deal with the (three, I think) Constellations which are
parked at Camarillo, (CA) airport? Seems unusual to see such a
collection anywhere but in the most obscure boneyard. Is there
a project under way?

You mean Camarillo, CA is NOT an obsure boneyard?

I know of two Connies stationed at CMA. (They are not affiliated with
the local wing of the Confederate Air Force, which maintains a few
nice birds of its own.)

I've watched the restoration of one of those birds since its arrival
(in near derelict condition) in '84. It's now fully restored as an AF
transport, dubbed "Camarillo Connie."

The other AWACS-type Connie arrived much more recently ('95-'97).

Cut to the chase: Here's a URL that describes both aircraft far more
elegantly than I can:

Nice site!

Doug,

There's also a polished-out Connie based (parked) at Santa Fe Airport. Painted
on the nose is "Columbine". I believe that this was Eisenhower's 'Air Force
One". I haven't seen it actually _move_ but I've been told that it is flown at
times.

Well, they would more likely be listed under the section "completed
projects." That is, if anything like this is EVER completed. :)

I haven't seen the AWACS bird fly, but it is advertised as being available
for airshows. The other Connie, the original Camarillo one, flies quite a
lot. I've even jumped out of it. It's a beauty.

I jumped out of it last year as well. The neatest part was being able to
go up to the cockpit and talk to the pilots, look around and realize
both how much and how little has changed...
