"I flew a Spitfire Mk XVI and a Mustang".
- Dudley Henriques

Now compare that to Hans Rudel who flew 2,530 missions mostly in an
obsolete Stuka and accomplished these figures:

11 aircraft shot down (Fw-190)
3 aircraft with the Stuka
150 artillery pieces
519 tanks
1000 AFVs
several bridges, bunkers, munitions depots
1 battleship "Marat"
2 cruisers
1 destroyer
70 landing craft
expended 1 million rds of MG , 150,000 rds 20mm, and 5,000 rds 37mm
dropped 1 million kg of bombs
flew 600,000 km and used up 5 million litres of fuel

Personally had his leg blown off below the knee and returned to combat
on his own initiative and won the highest award for bravery in the
world- the Knights Cross w/Golden Oak leaves, Swords, and Diamonds-
personally crafted for just him.

Hmmm... who really deserves glorification here??????

Case closed Dudley. Show this to your family and friends.

WOW....I've got a live one here. Man...you REALLY don't like me all that
much do you old buddy? :-)))))))

Actually Arndt, I just did show this idiotic post to my gang. They agree
with me, as would anyone else with a modicum of common sense.
You seem to have this compelling unexplained "need" to compare people where
comparison isn't called for . You concoct a scenario wherein you apply a
"glorification" tag to someone you don't particularly like very well and
then proceed in some sophomoric attempt at pitting the two people's
reputations against each other in some kind of credibility battle you have
alone conceived and concocted in your head. All this in a futile attempt to
tear down your adversary.
Well...it might work on the kiddy circuit....and admittedly it might even
work on a few around here, :-))))) but trust me.....it won't wash with the
intelligencia. But if it pleases you to play chess with me, play on!! :-)))

No, no - compare it to my great uncle Hans Mijou rather. On his first
combat mission in a Stuka he was shot down by an Allied pilot flying
a Kitty Hawk and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp in Canada.
For every Hans Rudel there were a thousand Hans Mijous. Your entire
comparison in a non sequitur.

He usually has a compelling unexplained "need" to compare THINGS where
comparison isn't called for. He also has a compelling unexplained "need" to
"close" an issue when he thinks he's ahead by announcing something like
"Case closed Dudley", then withdrawing to his Alpine retreat.

All knight's crosses we hand made. At the diamond level very few were
ever issued so obviously each was made for a specific man.

Teuton, Henriques never claimed to be a war hero or an ace. He has never
clamed to be better the Rudel. The only one talking about glorification
is you. And what have YOU done with your life? Absolutely nothing. You
whine about getting picked on, you lie, you make wild claims, you talk
about things you don't understand so to make up for your flaccid life
you put down people who have actually accomplished things.

Do you have the slightest idea how you come across to us?

If you weren't so amusing I'd have killfiled you long ago.

Dan,

By all means please disclose to me everyone you include in "us" since
you seem to think that it is the entire NG against me.
Not true at all. Some people respond, some do not... some don't even
care.
Who is the "us" you have included yourself with? Let me guess:

Keith Willshaw
Kevin Brooks
and a few others that respond now and then...

WOW! What a fantastic gathering out of all the people who are on this
NG while I write this.
And BTW, you don't have to serve in the USAF or be a pilot to have
accomplished something in life. You would be surprised by some of the
things I've done but that's my business, isn't it?
I've been on this NG for 7 yrs now and a lot of people are right that
it is degraded badly. You seem to want to respond to all my posts but
say relatively little against all the OT posters who flood the NG with
political BS and spam.
I could care less if you killfile me. The NG will go on and other
people with their opinions, views, and complaints will join. I will
still have a voice and there's nothing you can do about it except label
me names.
Dudley Henriques boasts of his almost "unique" part in history since he
flew BOTH a Spitfire Mk.XVI AND... wait for it... the MUSTANG!!!
He's making a valid claim to fame and his bragging about shooting
posters down was challenged. I shot HIM down with Hans Rudel who flew
for the most part what "you people" like to call an obsolete Stuka. It
surely wasn't in his hands. His expert use of that a/c put a bounty on
his head.
Who is the better pilot? Rudel. Who deserves real recognition (despite
the man's political views- which don't mean a damn thing in a cockpit)?
Rudel.
Dudley Henriques is nothing compared to Rudel.

Dudley,

Your "gang"? What, a bunch of geriatrics who think of themselves as the
"greatest generation"?
The fact that you have to display your credentials under your name with
each post shows how truly irrelevent you have become in life since you
need to "remind" everyone of what you've done in life.
You're probably trying to compensate for some inadequacy in your life,
probably phallic in nature. You probably drive a large SUV too, right?
With a large US flag sticker...

Rudel flew the Stuka on the Eastern Front against what were considered by
his NAZI master heroes second/third/fourth rate opposition. And in the end
he ran away from the second rate opposition to surrender to US Forces.

Neither I nor anyone else has ever said this was the case. As a matter
of fact I have told you several times one doesn't have to serve in the
military to serve one's country or be a success in life. You should look
at people who have succeded in life since none of them did it by
belittling others as you do.

He was making a comparison, not bragging, so why put him down for it?
He's entitled to his opinion. The thread was about personal opinion.

What on earth has this to do with Henriques' opinion on which aircraft
he likes better? You are the one who brought Rudel up. Why? It makes no
sense at all. The thread was about personal opinions on aircraft, not
about who Rudel. Why do you feel the constant need to belittle non
Germans when you yourself are non German?

What does Rudel's political beliefs have to do with his proficiency in
the Stuka and his glorious record? Do you personally know the beliefs
of all the Allied pilots/aces? A lot of them were racists that thought
Negros couldn't fly a/c. Gonna comment on that when their records come
up? Nope. Didn't think so... hypocrite.

Actually Arndt, these are only 2 of the over 50 types I've flown if you
count prototypes and test beds, but once again, what is this thing you have
about "boasting"? let me get this straight, as following your mental chain
on this thing is a bit confusing if nothing else.
At this point I''m simply trying to find out if you're just nuts or just
another of the rare RAM simpleon asshloles we pick up around here from time
to time?
Is it your contention that if some one answers one of your posts asking for
a comparison of two airplanes and the person answering makes a simple
statement that he has flown both types and that each has it's own unique
brand of beauty; that THIS constitutes boasting to the point that you feel
the need to start a comparison rant between what the poster has said and the
entire war record of another pilot totally unrelated and unmentioned by the
poster in any way, and do so in a most derogatory manner?
Is THIS what you're trying to sell everybody? Are you NUTS? :-))))

> Dudley Henriques is nothing compared to Rudel.

You know Arndt....in a few posts when this is over, Rudel will still be
Rudel, I'll still be Dudley Henriques, and you will still be nothing but a
pathetic RAM idiot trying in vain to force a non existent comparison between
Rudel and myself that if he was here to see what was going on, he would no
doubt read everything you have written, take a quick look at what I have
written, tell you to go fuck yourself, and then he and I would go out
together and have a drink

Who knows? But I think the relevance of posting a comparison of a
Mustang and Spitfire XVI based on personal experience in a thread
titled by comparing the aesthetics of the two has a certain relevance.
This quality of relevance seems somewhat more elusive in the case of
Rudel.

Did you know that Rudel's artificial leg, being of superior Teutonic
design, could out-run, out-turn, out-dive and out-climb Douglas
Bader's inferior ones produced by second-rate Allied technology? Of
course you did. It's all on a web site somewhere.

Careful you don't misread me on the "emotional" level there tffy. If I was
angry at Arndt, he'd know it..trust me on this one! :-)
Actually I find him quite amusing. I'm only at the 3 cuss word level on this
one. (My wife gauges my anger on this group not by the amount of cuss words
I'm using on an attacker, but rather the amount of times I'm using the same
word. This one is only a 3 word thread. It's when it gets to a 6 word thread
she begins to worry about anger. :-))))

I seldom actually get "frosted" with people like Arndt. It's more like
swatting a fly. This is just one of the times I decided to take an attacker
on. believe me, that's it...period.
The name has a Portuguese origin. In fact, the family is related to the
founder and first king of Portugal, . It's pronounced Hen re cus.
Hope this helps a bit.

It's funny you said this. DB was a personal friend as well as a charter
member of the IFPF and I knew him quite well.
Knowing Douglas, if anyone had even suggested to him that someone was out
there with a tin leg who could do things with the legs that he couldn't do
with his, you could have bet the house there would have been some "race
arrangements" going on in short order!! :-))))))))

I can believe it, I had an uncle who lost both legs in an
accident in the late 40's at the age of 12 and he always
remembered the talk he had with Bader who visited him
and other children in hospital when he was really down.

Realising that his life wasnt over and that anything was possible
was the turning point for him. Most people never knew the
work Douglas Bader did with the sick and injured , much at
his own expense. A great man indeed.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was spelled with a "z" instead of an "s" once way
back. I lived in the Azores as a barefoot boy with cheeks of tan and once was
able to embarass myself in Portuguese.

I thought the current spelling was of French extraction. I'm glad to see it's
not.

Just for the record, spelled the way it is the Portuguese would have pronounced
it "en ree cush" while the French would call it "on reek".

Hi Tex;

It was a great story, and well presented by Paul Brickhill. Douglas never
tried to pass off his mistake in the crash. He always talked about it in a
way that might keep some other pilot down the line from falling victim to
the same temptations he did. I can tell you that what happened to DB is a
very real problem for aerobatic demonstration pilots. I know there have been
several times in my own career when I wasn't feeling all that well after a
long weekend and when climbing into my airplane to leave some airport after
a show, Base Ops would empty and everybody would start asking for that ever
present "roll on takeoff" as I departed the field. It takes a lot sometimes
to say no to a group like that, but it's always the best move to do so. In
show configuration, the airplane is at a specific low fuel rate pound wise,
and low altitude rolls are entered under precise conditions. leaving to go
home cross country, most of the time you have full tanks and you're tired to
begin with.
I believe the ability to say no has saved my life a dozen times over during
the years I flew, and much of the 'reminder" in the back of my brain at all
times that allowed me to recall that this was a bad idea came from Douglas'
crash and his attitude about it.
You could say I owe him a lasting debt!! :-)

Wow! What medal did he get for the 11 Fw-190s he shot down?

When Luftwaffe pilots were killed without shooting down anything did this
make them traitors?

Demon pentium overclocker from way back. Try grepping google groups
for him on comp.sys.intel and comp.os.ms-windows.misc and so forth -
there are still a few fragments left out there. I'm starting to think

Indeed, no pimp from an Allied country could get murdered and be
turned into a propganda anthem as quickly as a German one. Extensive
wind-tunnel tests conducted by the RLM in secret caves below the
Obersalzburg and then posted on the internet prove this.

That's funny. This reminds me of a scene from the Producers:

FRANZ LIEBKIND: I vas vit him a great deal, you know.

BIALYSTOCK: With whom?

LIEBKIND: Vit the Fuhrer, of course. He liked
me. Out of all the household staff at Berchtesgarten, I vas his favorite. I
vas the only one allowed into his chambers at bedtime.

BIALYSTOCK: No kidding?

LIEBKIND: Oh, sure. I used to take him his hot milk and his opium. Achhh,
those were the days. Vat good times ve had. Dinner parties vit lovely ladies
and gentlemen, singing und dancing. You know, not many people knew about it,
but the Fuhrer vas a terrific dancer.

BIALYSTOCK: Really, I never dreamed ...

LIEBKIND: (flies into an indignant rage) That's because you were taken in by
that verdampter Allied propaganda. Such filthy lies. But nobody said a bad
vord about Winston Churchill, did they? Oh no, Vin Vit Vinnie! (he gestures
V for victory) Churchill, vit his cigars and his brandy and his rotten
paintings. Couldn't even say Nazi. He would say Narzis, Narzis. Ve vere not
Narzies, ve vere Nazis. Churchill! With his cigars, with his brandy, and his
rotten painting! Rotten! Hitler, there was a painter. He could paint an
entire apartment in one afternoon--two coats! But let me tell this, and
you're getting it straight from the horse, Hitler vas better looking than
Churchill, he vas a better dresser than Churchill, had more hair, told
funnier jokes, and could dance the pants off Churchill!
