Did the F-15 cost less than the F-14? I am guessing that due to the Phoenix system and the swing wing the Tomcat was more expensive.

Military exports are as much part of nefarious power balance and
influence calculations as economic plans. Irans F-14's, even under
the theocratic regime
balanced Hussein's Bathist Iraq so you may find it convenient to sell
weapons to unreliable nations anyway, eg Pakistan. Personally I
rather prefer the Bathist regimes of Syria and Iraq to anything that
those countries had in the past or will ever have in the future.
Compared to the Alternative Baathists were good people. AIPACS
vinditive effect on US policy will eventually ensure the victory of
Islam in the middle east and hopefully the demise of Israel.
Of course there are ways and means, during the Falkland War Britain
asked France for the disable codes for the Exocet missile used so
impunely against the Royal Navy. This was a direct Thatcher to
Mitterand "converstation" with the French President refusing
(presumably to protect the integrity of Frances weapons exports),
claiming he suffered subsequent mental healthy problems because the
British Prime minister threatened to use nukes. (Perhaps nuclear
SAM's). (I rather think the snivelling race traitor deserved to
suffer). Wish Thatcher had of used her impressive balls to deal with
Britains real enemies.
