I am willing to pay a rather large amount of money to be able to own my very
own
Mig-17 or a similar (preferably Russian) outdated military jet. I'm sure
someone that
reads this ng would know where to get one. Any suggestions? Anyone?

We still have a good selection of East German MIG21 cockpit sections for
sale.

How many do you want? There are plenty available for 40 - 150K. Of course,
if you do your research you will find that purchase price is about same as
your annual maintenance costs for these birds, even with low flight hours.

They would be fun, but you can't fly very far - their range is horrible.
Call ahead to plan your direct approach due to low fuel.

From what I have seen there are much better military jet buys out there.

Yes, but he said he wanted an -airplane-, not a scrap cockpit.
(unless he wants to sit in it and make zooming noises...)

Send a rather large amount of money and I'll be happy to send you one.
Heck, send a -really- huge amount and I'll send you a -squadron- of 'em.

Flight training extra. Do yourself a favor and buy a nice Fouga instead.

Aviation Classics in Reno, NV at Stead Airpport 15 miles north of town
has several MiG-21s in stock ready to undergoe the certification
process. Many believe this outfit wrote the book for the FAA on
rehabbing, operation, training and maintenance of former military
aircraft.

Thought they only had the one, that was recently sold?? A UM being
redone for our friend Terry with the MiG-15??

They hardly 'wrote the book', but they have been around a while and
are reliable if a bit overpriced. But they were not the first, especially
with the -21's, A certain guy up in Vermont had that honor. Seems like
AR in Reno had a -15 on its back last year. ????

Such as? I'm not challenging your point, I'm just interested to know.

When China is having its airshow why don't you go there.
Everything is for sale. The J-7s are equivalent to Mig-21s
since we chinese just copy 99% of it. Very cheap since
its mass produced. Its less than a million. A bargain
considering that you are purchasing the main fighter that
China has.

Its engines is Liyang WP-7B with max thrust 13,000 lbs
and max speed Mach 2.1
and you have a combat radius of 550 miles enough for you to fly
to Taiwan and back. Although you might need to some fuel tanks if you
carry some bombs.

It has two 30mm cannons and can carry some dumb bombs. It also
has some AAM but not sure if you can get the latest missiles. Why
not settle for Pl-2. Old vintage missilies good for shooting down any
F-105 the Taiwans throw at you. These Pl-2 are free, given to you
when you purchased the J-7s.
