Hopefully Air Marshals (UK sense) can explain (justly) that they haven't
the crystal ball, because obviously Sentinels now ought to return back
to Akrotiri (where now they will be actually needed.....)

Last thing UK MoD needs is a scuffle inside and outside RAF on this
not-so "ill-timed" redeployment... and the £ expended for it...

Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

Depends on what's next...

If it's Syria then they'll be off to Cyprus pretty quickly.

But they can't seem to get the Arab League to condemn the bloody handed
tyrant there.

The interesting question being 'Why?'

"The weapons were seized and other equipment thrown overboard. The boat was
then released, according to the Indian Navy."

I would have liked them to do more, like arrest the pirates.

Right now the whole thing is playing out like a revenge tragedy, and
you know what usually happens at the end of those don't you?

An outsider turns up and says 'What a tragedy', and promptly takes over.

Libya has no political infrastructure or political parties.

Arrest pirates? To what end? They are pirates. Summary execution.

They're not using them on anyone at the moment, and probably won't if
all people do is say 'Yes, you can go and scrag him'.

Anyway, Saddam's stuff turned out to be a 'paper tiger'.

What's he gonna a do?

Hit the sovereign base areas on Cyprus?

All that would do is increase the possibility of the British sending
ground troops.

Who would they use them on at the moment? They are doing fine killing
their own people with small arms.

It's pretty well documented that the Syrians have a lot of tactical
ballistic missiles and chemical warheads. As far as Cyprus? I'd
suppose that might be a target but I'd think if Syria wanted to really
screw things up, they hit Israel as hard as they could. Then things
escalate with Israel retaliating and Iran coming in. Then all bets
are off once that happens. I have no doubt that Syria and Iran would
lose but Israel would certainly take a horrible hit as well.

As far as the UK sending ground troops? How? They sure aren't going
to pull off a Normandy style landing.

Except they're not.

|There are areas that have been in open rebellion for months.

Saddam stopped that sort of thing with a drenching in mustard gas.

Assad either hasn't the balls (unlikely) or he hasn't a working delivery
system (much more likely)

No, they've some missiles but as far as we know they have no warheads
capable of dispersing chemicals in an attack.

What more they're probably incapable of building them as it's very
sophisticated stuff.

How do the Iranians get there?

I somehow doubt either Iraq or Turkey will be giving them transit rights.

Or maybe they'll sail up the gulf and up the Red Sea and nip through the
Suez canal...

Or maybe you didn't look at a map before you typed that bit...

They wouldn't need to send many.

Probably what they sent to Libya which was Spooks, Special Forces and a
few logistical specialists.

Cyprus isn't that far away.
