Re: British-built schools in Afghanistan may be forced to close

British officials have now reportedly been ordered to identify which
facilities are "critical" to the people of Helmand and to begin closing
down the others by the end of 2014.

This sounds like a political ambush. Getting the British to destroy the
schools and health clinics built since the invasion. If the Taliban

it - they can close the school. I suspect that they just want to
replace it with one of their indoctrination and recruiting centres.

If a village wants a school or clinic they will have to pay for its
upkeep themselves.

Leading three other men on a bayonet charge against an enemy of
unknown numbers, and getting away with it, is exceptional.

As they don't give the DSO to 'other ranks' yet and no officer was
present when it happened it's the highest decoration available.

I imagine he'll complete his tour, if he hasn't already done so, and
then it'll be down the palace for a handshake, a cup of tea and a
sandwich, and then back to duty.
