The Pulled Pig Platter at the golf course (over on the airfield side,
which I believe is now defunct) is excellent. And if you don't get
down to the Rendezvous (rib joint) and Beale Street (home of some
unbelievable blues joints), you will be missing some of the most
sublime experiences this life has to offer.

Just north of Memphis, suburb. Go to Graceland, but only if you want to
see something out of the Beverly Hillbillies! Good God, the 60s and 70s
were tacky!

Millington was not that great but Memphis is. BE SURE TO TAKE A CAR if
you
have one. Millinton is the worst place to get stuck without wheels, at
least it was in 1975!!

I'm sure it's become much more splendid than the muddy, gray-skied, bleak
little slice of Tennessee scrubland it was in 1978.... Sure it has.
Bring a car. The base itself lacks...something...hm...what is it... oh,
yea, interest.

Hey, I was there in '67 too.
I was there in 83-84. What a place. What a drag...
If you are going there, my advice is to make sure you have a car, so
you can excape the base and that hellhole town, Memphis is cool.
Hehe, I wonder if the 'Anchor' club is still going. I barfed on the
pool table there one night...

In the east coast Tomcat world of the mid 80's, we had an IWT shop
(AT/AQ) and an AE shop.
BTW, the nickname for an AE is "one wire"...because they never can
seem to fix anything that has more than one wire...<G>
Boy, do I have some good AE stories...like the time a couple of AE's
replaced the speedbrake switch in the throttle...the next time the jet
was flown (by the XO!), the speedbrakes would pop out every time the
#1 UHF radio was keyed...
..or the time the AE's miss-wired a relay, so that every time the
pilot would hit the DLC/chaff button on the stick, the spoilers would
come out (and chaff would be expended)!
..or when we IWTer's were stuck with a gripe on an AWG-9 antenna that
we could not fiigure out. The antenna went bad in flight was changed,
and then would not work...even if "known good" antennas were hung on
the jet (and BTW, robbing an antenna SUCKS!). All the voltages read
good...what gives? Later during an engine turn, I ran up the radar
(IWT was required to supply a backseater during maintenace turns in
order to run certain tests) and was shocked to hear the antenna come
on line, and check good! Turns out that when we removed the original
(bad) antenna, but before we hung the new one, the AE's had rewired
the ground power contactors...and got the phases messed up!
Arrrggghhh!!!!
Ah, the good ole days...

>Yes I too was there in "67, going to Instructor school for NAMTD.
I got my NAMTD Instructor Training after I went back in '69
for AVIB.

Heh Heh, in the East Coast A-6 community, we also referred to them as
"spark chasers."
Millington....I had heard recently that it was closed....if not, GET A
CAR!!! Silky O'Sullivan's in Memphis was one of the bars of choice
(81-82).
The bars in Millington that I remember were: The Brig, The Anchor, The
Longbranch (became off-limits), and The Pier 2.
I also remember finding out what 19 degrees below zero felt
like....brrrrrr

Is Overtons Square in Memphis still there? Bars galore. Frequented the
place in '74. Do remember the Pier 2 had great pizzas
DRC
I was there in 68 going to AT "A" school and some AFU "P" school. Did
instructor school at Miramar and taught at VF-124 FRAMP.
Re-enlisted in 69 to get "B" school but never went back to Millington
because I never asked for my "B" school slot.

Where in Pensacola did they put NATTC, Sherman, Whiting or Cory Field?
A whole lot more to do in Pensacola than Millington (been in both
places),
Fort Pickens and Barancas, Naval Air Museum, the beaches, the fishing,
etc....
I hope you get there in the summertime Casey, BUT you'll still need a
car !!
DRC
ps... the Blue Angels homecoming airshow at NAS Pensacola in November is
the
best I have ever seen.....
The barracks are a step up from boot camp (of course) and the liberty
policy seemed pretty liberal (I was an E-6 going to the instructor school
at the time, so all I know is what I observed driving around the base).
Across the main road is a golf course and riding stable. The gym is
medium size and the pool is olympic size I think. The ex Seals at the
pool will hook you up with a skydiving club too. They have a nice movie
theater/deli/resturant complex also.
If you can bring a car then by all means bring it. There isn't much to
see outside the gate and all the non-seedy bars are a drive. Of course
the club on base is nice-if you don't mind the 100 to 1ratio of men to
women!
I thought the air station part was being turned over to the city? What
school are you going to?
TTYL.

Is Krump Stadium still there ?
On Liberty we used to go to the "T" dace in town and had to bring your own
bottle and dance with the Girls. Tenn was a dry state.

Since the move to Pensacola, the local economy has boomed. Used car sales
are up, Real-estate market up. As for "A" school, well its allot better
facility
than that in Millington!
